answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/10/2019 answer text <p>Customers with smart meters are cheaper to serve for energy suppliers, and the Government expects the associated savings to be passed on. We are already seeing some suppliers offering cheaper tariffs for customers with smart meters or those that agree to have them installed.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has acted to protect consumers regardless of meter type. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/10/2019 answer text <p>Smart meters continue to record energy consumption accurately when a consumer switches energy supplier, even when the new energy supplier is temporarily unable to operate the meter in smart mode. Smart meters are rarely replaced when a consumer switches energy supplier.
