The terms of the Withdrawal Agreement mean that the UK will continue to participate in EU Programmes financed by the 2014-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework until their closure.</p><p>The UK is the first major economy to legislate for net zero emissions by 2050. The Government’s Clean Growth Strategy sets out how we want to make sure that the UK continues to reap the benefits from the transition to a low carbon economy.</p><p>The Government is investing over £3 billion to support low carbon innovation in the UK between 2015 and 2021, to ensure that the UK continues to grasp the economic opportunities of the global shift to a low carbon future, and have committed to raise total research and development investment to 2.4% of GDP by 2027.</p><p>This is already benefiting clean growth innovation – for example the £505 million BEIS Energy Innovation Programme, which aims to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative clean energy technologies and processes.</p> answering member constituency Spelthorne answering member printed Kwasi Kwarteng question first answered 23/01/2020 11:34:52 answering member 4134 label Biography information for Kwasi Kwarteng

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/01/2020 answer text <p>The Government is committed to delivering our target to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and end the UK’s contribution to climate change.</p><p> </p><p>We are a world leader in cutting emissions, having reduced emissions by 42% since 1990 while growing the economy by 72%.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise the need to go further and, since legislating for net zero in June, the Government has continued to bring forward ambitious plans to support clean growth across a range of sectors. This includes a £250 million Clean Steel Fund, £400 million of investment in new charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, and up to £1 billion additional funding to develop and embed the next generation of cutting-edge electric vehicle technologies.</p><p> </p><p>Under the leadership of the newly created Cabinet Committee on Climate Change, chaired by the Prime Minister, we will be setting out ambitious plans throughout 2020 to strengthen our global leadership and seize the economic opportunities of clean growth for the whole country. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/10/2019 answer text <p>Climate change is one of the most urgent and pressing challenges we face today and this Government is committed to tackling it</p><p>Our ambitious domestic emissions reduction targets, enshrined in UK law, will not be affected by Brexit. These commitments, including our net zero 2050 target, go beyond our emissions reduction commitments in EU law.</p><p>The Environment Bill – laid on the 15<sup>th</sup> October - will establish a new, world-leading independent regulator that will enforce our climate commitments, working closely alongside our independent advisers, the Committee on Climate Change.</p><p>Brexit will not affect our international climate commitments. The UK is a party to the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement in our own right and we are bound by all the obligations of these agreements under international law. This includes the requirement to prepare, communicate and maintain successive Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. We have committed to publishing an enhanced UK NDC by February next year.</p><p>In addition to these commitments, we have recently announced that we are setting up a new climate change cabinet committee, chaired by the Prime Minister. Officials working on UNFCCC negotiations engage with colleagues in the Secretariat on a regular basis. In order to inform the UK decision to bid to host COP26, and subsequent preparations, officials undertook several fact-finding meetings in the margins of intersessional meetings in 2018 and 2019. Crude oil and petroleum products are traded through liquid international markets.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has been working closely with the fuel industry to minimise the risks from leaving the EU on fuel supplies. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/10/2019 answer text <p>I am responding in relation the Departmental headquarters building at 1 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0ET, where most staff are based.</p><p>Energy is supplied by Corona (gas) and EDF (electricity), and the total carbon emissions for 2018/19 was 2607.31 tonnes of CO2e. The Department does not hold the figure for how much of this specifically relates to energy consumption.</p><p>The Department uses the Crown Commercial Services energy frameworks for the supply of utilities, which can be used to secure the supply of energy from renewable resources. The Department is committed to reducing the impact of its operations on the environment and achieving net zero emissions by 2025, which is why from 1 October 2019, electricity will be supplied solely from renewable resources.
