answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/10/2019 answer text <p>Iran's human rights record continues to be of serious concern to the UK, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has designated it as one of its Human Rights Priority Countries. We regularly raise the treatment of religious and ethnic minorities in Iran with the Iranian Government, and we continue to take action with the international community to press Iran to improve its poor record on all human rights issues. At the UN General Assembly in September, we brought the international community together at a UK-hosted event to shine a spotlight on Iran's human rights abuses. The continued restrictions on freedoms of expression, religion and belief are deeply worrying. While some religious minorities are formally protected in the constitution, the reality is that many non-Muslims face discrimination. Despite constitutional recognition, the persecution of Christians has been continuous, systemic, and institutionalised.</p><p>We support the assessment of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights that discrimination against the Christians in Iran is sanctioned by a lack of constitutional recognition and the absence of other legal protections for adherents of this faith. We regularly call upon Iran to cease harassment of all religious minorities and to fulfil its international and domestic obligations to protect freedom of religion or belief. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/10/2019 answer text <p>The UK championed the prevention and treatment of malnutrition as a core aspect of universal health coverage at the high-level meeting at the United Nations General Assembly in September. This is key to ending preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns, and children, given that malnutrition drives 45% of child deaths – a top priority for the UK as recently announced.</p><p>To support countries to achieve universal health coverage the UK is also investing in health systems strengthening and service delivery that integrates nutrition in countries such as Bangladesh and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We have also taken steps to integrate nutrition more strongly into global health initiatives such as the Global Financing Facility. Over 7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. The health system has collapsed, leading to the return of deadly diseases such as polio and diphtheria. Venezuelans’ access to basic goods such as medicines and food is extremely limited, leading to high levels of food insecurity and increased child malnutrition. To date we have provided over £4 million in humanitarian aid inside Venezuela to respond to the most severe needs, including supporting malnourished children and providing vaccinations to tackle deadly diseases. Our support is also enabling vulnerable people moving across Venezuela to reconnect with their families through phone calls and internet access. There are increasing reports of gender-based violence and human trafficking for sexual exploitation as people seek alternative routes out of Venezuela. The UK has provided £2 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies across seven countries in the region to meet the immediate basic needs of those on the move including providing emergency shelter and health services. In addition, the UK was the second largest donor to the Global Concessional Financing Facility for Colombia, providing £8 million to help unlock concessional loans to support Colombia in continuing to host over 1.4 million Venezuelans.</p><p>DFID provides significant core funding to multilateral organisations, including the United Nations and the Red Cross movement, who are providing emergency humanitarian support as part of the international response in the region. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/11/2019 answer text <p>Millions of tuberculosis cases continue to go undiagnosed and untreated each year – identifying these is essential to ending the tuberculosis epidemic, which killed 1.5 million people globally in 2018. We are pleased to note the improvement in the number of cases of tuberculosis identified as confirmed by the World Health Organisation Global Tuberculosis Report published on 17 October. 7 million people with tuberculosis were identified globally in 2018, including 600,000 more people than in 2017.</p><p> </p><p>The Global Fund has played an important part in this improvement. A joint initiative between the Global Fund, the Stop TB Partnership and the World Health Organisation aims to accelerate progress in finding people with tuberculosis in 13 countries with the highest disease burden. We remain committed to the global effort and the World Health Organisation End Tuberculosis Strategy. We are proud to be at the forefront of work to prevent, detect and treat tuberculosis, including funding research to develop new treatments to tackle drug resistant tuberculosis. Our commitment to provide £1.4 billion to the latest replenishment of the Global Fund will help provide tuberculosis treatment and care for over 2 million people.</p><p> </p><p>A new tuberculosis vaccine could potentially have a significant effect on reducing tuberculosis deaths, and there is cautious optimism about the results for one potential vaccine, although there is still a very high degree of uncertainty for this high-risk research.
