answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/07/2019 answer text <p>The UK and Saudi Arabia have a longstanding bilateral relationship based on a number of pillars including defence, security, trade and investment, shared concerns about regional issues and energy security. The UK supports Saudi Arabia’s efforts to protect its national security against critical threats, such as the ballistic missiles and drones fired by the Houthis into civilian areas in Saudi Arabia.</p><p>The UK works with Saudi Arabia to ensure targeting procedures are compliant with International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and we regularly raise the importance of IHL compliance with Saudi Arabia, including at senior levels. The UK is not a member of the Saudi-led Coalition and the UK’s role is limited to providing advice, information and assistance to help Saudi Arabia respond to airborne threats launched by the Houthis. We remain deeply concerned by the use of children in conflict in Yemen. We raise allegations of human rights abuses, including the use of child soldiers, with all parties to the conflict in Yemen. We have been clear that all parties must comply with International Humanitarian Law.</p><p>The UK firmly believes in the importance of international conventions to prevent the exploitation of children as soldiers. The UK has called for all states to sign up to the key international commitments pertaining to ending the recruitment and use of children in conflict including the Paris Principles and Commitments, the Vancouver Principles and the Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict. We firmly believe this framework of standards and commitments provides vital safeguards for the rights of children in armed conflict. For example, 91 countries have endorsed the Safe Schools Declaration. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/07/2019 answer text <p>The UK is gravely concerned by the situation in Idlib, which we are closely monitoring, in coordination with our international partners and relevant UN bodies.</p><p>We have repeatedly called on all parties to end the violence, return to the ceasefire agreed in September 2018, and abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law, including at three emergency sessions of the UN Security Council. The Prime Minister raised the urgent need to restore the ceasefire in Idlib with President Putin and President Erdogan at the G20 Summit on 28-29 June.</p><p>UK aid continues to support the protection of civilians in Idlib, where DFID partners are working to support health facilities and establish mobile emergency protection teams. We have raised Christian persecution with the Indian Government. Iran continues to deny consular access, as it does not recognise dual nationality. Nonetheless, we continue to request it. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/07/2019 answer text <p>The British Government has taken regular action bilaterally and multilaterally in cases involving detained human rights lawyers and activists, including the case of Wang Quanzhang. This has included raising our concerns about lawyers and activists at China’s Universal Periodic Review in November 2018, and at the last UK/China Human Rights Dialogue. Moreover, the Minister of Asia and the Pacific raised Wang Quanzhang’s case with the Chinese Government during his visit last July. The Foreign Secretary raised Wang Quanzhang’s case last July, when he met Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi; he also met with family members of detained human rights lawyers.
