answer text <p>Acknowledging previous PQs on the same theme, I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave him on 5 February 2021, to Questions 145107 and 145108 and relating to Questions 133119,133120 and 133121, that articulated MODs historical and ongoing approach to and consideration of inclusive solutions for Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) respiratory protection, including communication of the fundamental complexities.</p><p> </p><p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is committed to active encouragement and growth of research, education, and advancements in the provision of inclusive counter-CBRN capabilities. The necessity for diversity and inclusion consideration is recognized globally and features within the key requirements of MODs counter-CBRN policy, strategies, research and international engagements.</p><p> </p><p>In specific response to the recent questions, it is to be highlighted that, amongst other activities, the MOD ran a targeted “Respiratory Protection and Facial Hair Compatibility Workshop” in January 2022, supported by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). This workshop directly discussed “<strong>the potential merits of improving general service respirators for service personnel who have facial hair for religious reasons</strong>” and “<strong>the potential merits of using silicone bands on general service respirators for service personnel who have facial hair for religious reasons</strong>”.</p><p> </p><p>The workshop included representation from the Diversity and Inclusion and Faith Networks and provided an opportunity to better inform the User community on the subject of respiratory protection and facial hair, focusing on the General Service Respirator (GSR).</p><p> </p><p>Some of the recommendations from this workshop were incorporated into Defence Counter-CBRN policy and Defence continues to fund academic research and development programmes that explore alternative respiratory options appropriate for Service personnel who have facial hair for religious reasons.</p>

answer text <p>The care and maintenance of the graves of those personnel who lost their lives in the two World Wars throughout the UK is undertaken on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The Department provides an annual Grant-in-Aid contribution to the Commission to fund the enduring work and in doing so provides the largest element of the Commission’s funding. In taking this work forward the Commission and the MOD engage with the relevant authorities as required, including the Church of the England.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) fully recognises that the provision of safe, good quality and well-maintained accommodation is essential to operational output, and providing such accommodation is one of the MOD’s top priorities.</p><p>In the last seven years, MOD has invested more than 936 million in SFA improvements and currently just under 97% of MOD Service Family Accommodation (SFA) meet or exceed the Government’s Decent Homes Standard. However, we are looking to go further and the 2022-23 improvement programme is based on a funding level of £176 million which will also improve the thermal efficiency of homes.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Stanford Hall is a state of the art facility that rehabilitates our most seriously injured and I had the opportunity to speak to staff and patients when I visited last week .</p><p>The Government has committed funding to an NHS-led National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) with plans for the facility to be operational by Autumn 2024. The NRC will be located in the Stanford Hall estate enabling the sharing of expertise and the potential use of specialist facilities available at the DMRC.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Armed Forces Act 2021 placed a duty on specific local public bodies in the areas of health, housing, and education to have due regard to the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant. The Government will report on the overall effectiveness of the Duty within five years of it coming into force, in accordance with good practice, to allow time for impacts to emerge.</p><p> </p><p>We will be working with Local Authorities and other bodies in scope of the duty to ensure they are aware of their obligations to ensure the Armed Forces Community do not face disadvantage.
