More than £4.2 billion has been provided since 2016, including over £2 billion for core Brexit activity in 2019-20 for deal and no deal preparations.</p><p> </p><p>The 2019-20 allocations were announced in a Written Ministerial Statement on 18 December 2018. The devolved administrations received their full share of additional funding in devolved areas through the Barnett Formula, with the Welsh Government allocated £31.1m. This means the Welsh Government will receive £128m in 2017-18, £133m in 2018-19, and £138m in 2019-20. On 22 March 2017, my Rt Hon friend, the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice announced plans for the building of four new prisons in England and Wales, replacing old and overcrowded establishments with new, fit for purpose buildings.</p><p> </p><p>As well as creating modern establishments fit for the twenty-first century, the proposed new builds will act as a boost to regional economies across the country – creating up to two thousand jobs in the construction and manufacturing industries and new opportunities for local businesses.</p><p> </p><p>The plans include a new prison in Port Talbot in South Wales. The Ministry of Justice intends to apply for planning permission soon.</p><p> </p><p>At this stage it is too early to give an estimate of the cost of designing and building the new prison but we will seek to ensure value for money for taxpayers.
