answer text The vast majority of parents have been able to apply for and use Tax-Free Childcare without difficulty. Where parents have missed out on Tax-Free Childcare payments HMRC will pay compensation to reimburse them. As at 11 January 2018, the average payment made to a parent who had received a payment in lieu of missed Tax-Free Childcare payments was £274. HMRC also makes redress payments to recompense parents for inconvenience and expenses such as telephone calls to the helpline. At 11 January 2018 the average redress payment to a parent who received such a payment was £64. more like this

answer text <p>When a parent completes an application for 30 hours free childcare, an online childcare account is created automatically. The majority of parents currently accessing 30 hours free childcare will have a live childcare account.</p><p> </p><p>Where a parent becomes ineligible, or chooses not to reconfirm their details, their childcare account will no longer be live, but they can still access 30 hours free childcare for a short period known as a “grace period”.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, some parents who have experienced technical difficulties were issued a 30 hours code manually. These parents may not have a live childcare account.</p> more like this

The full methodology for calculating DfE’s spring codes is set out in their statistical release, which can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/673119/30-hours_childcare_management_information_stats-_Jan_2018.pdf</p><p> </p><p>Whilst the majority of parents use the childcare service with no problem, some parents have experienced issues and HMRC have apologised to those parents.</p><p>Many of the issues experienced by parents are intermittent and may affect customers in different ways.</p><p>Currently, on a typical day, fewer than 2% of parents see an error screen at some point.</p><p>Some parents receive a delayed eligibility response. At present this is less than 1% of current applicants.</p><p> </p>
