answer text <p>The Government has always urged families to claim Child Benefit to help protect their future right to the State Pension.</p><p> </p><p>The legislation sets out that claims for Child Benefit (and the accompanying National Insurance credit) can only be backdated for three months.</p><p> </p><p>Successive governments have considered that three months is a fair and reasonable time in which to allow those wishing to claim Child Benefit to do so.</p><p> </p><p>Even though there may be no question that some parents would have been entitled to Child Benefit had they claimed earlier, such certainty is not obvious in every case. The longer the delay, the harder it is to establish entitlement, given the need to verify evidence and ensure consistent treatment.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Strategy for our Veterans and a Consultation Paper were published on 14 November and debated in both Houses on 15 November. The Consultation Paper seeks public views to inform how the Government will implement the strategy. Following conclusion of the consultation period in February 2019, implementation plans will be developed by each relevant service provider, along with individual costings which will fall across Government. Once implementation options have been agreed, the resource required to implement the Strategy for our Veterans will be agreed between Ministerial Covenant and Veterans Board members, which includes the Chief Secretary to the Treasury.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The government is committed to increasing private investment in infrastructure through a range of models. The 2017 National Infrastructure and Construction Pipeline estimates that almost half of the UK’s £600 billion infrastructure pipeline is expected to be financed by the private sector.</p><p> </p><p>The Budget announced that the government will no longer use Private Finance 2 (the successor to the Private Finance Initiative) for new projects, as the model was inflexible and overly complex. Private finance will not be used for the upgrade of the A303 and the Lower Thames Crossing.</p> more like this
