Officials, Advisors and Ministers in the Department have not made any representations to the CMA, and the CMA have not consulted Ministers or advisors, on the date of the publication of this report. Officials in my Department have discussed with the CMA their intended date of publication for final report on the energy market to inform the Department’s own planning.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We want to see even more competition to keep energy costs down for businesses.</p><p>The Competition and Markets Authority has already published some suggestions such as requiring suppliers to publish tariffs online and making switching easier for businesses on auto-rollover contracts.</p><p>We are looking forward to the CMA’s final report and are committed to implementing their recommendations.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Competition and Markets Authority has produced a strong package of provisional remedies which will help deliver a fair deal to all consumers. They build on action already taken by the Government to improve competition.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will take forward appropriate implementation of the remedies once the Competition and Markets Authority has finalised its recommendations which are due by June.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>There are now 25 independent suppliers in the domestic retail market providing more competition and choice for consumers.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has made it quicker and easier for consumers to switch supplier. We are now working with Ofgem towards next day switching.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We have supported Ofgem’s reforms to make the retail market simpler, clearer and fairer and to increase liquidity in the wholesale electricity market.</p><p> </p><p>In addition the Government has backed Ofgem’s referral of the energy market for investigation by the Competition and Market Authority.</p><p> </p> more like this

As part of the investigation into the energy markets, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has also identified different forms switching and comparison sites for energy can take in other advanced economies and is considering alternatives as part of their possible remedies.
