The EU Settlement Scheme enables them to do so. The application process is short and user-friendly, and is accessible on any smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet browser, including Apple devices.</p><p>The ‘EU Exit: Identity Document Check’ app is an optional aspect of the service which allows applicants to prove their identity remotely.</p><p><br>The Home Secretary confirmed over the weekend, that Apple will be making the necessary changes and the EU Exit: Identity Document Check’ app will be working on their devices by the end of the year</p><p>Applicants can also post their document and have it returned immediately upon inspection or visit one of 50 locations to have their document checked.</p><p>If a person wishes to use a family, friend or employer’s Android device until the app is available on Apple then it is perfectly safe and secure for them to do so.</p><p> </p> answering member constituency Romsey and Southampton North answering member printed Caroline Nokes question first answered 08/04/2019 09:10:20 answering member 4048 label Biography information for Caroline Nokes

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/04/2019 answer text <p>The Home Office will not issue a physical document to EU citizens granted status under the EU Settlement Scheme. Those granted status under the scheme will be given a digital status, as part of moving the UK immigration system to digital by default. The future border and immigration system will make use of the latest digital technology to improve customer experience, increase security and detect abuse.</p><p><br>EU citizens granted status under the scheme can access information about their immigration status and entitlements via a secure online service. Individuals will control who they wish to share this with to demonstrate their status and to exercise their rights under the Withdrawal Agreement. With online services, we can ensure that checkers see only the information that is relevant and proportionate to their need. Using a physical document as evidence of status, as has been the practice to date, does none of this.</p><p><br>It can also cause significant problems when documents are lost, stolen, damaged, expired or in the process of being renewed. Physical documents are also far more open to forgery and fraud, something we must seek avoid. Additionally, there are individuals whose documents are controlled by others – for examples, in cases of domestic violence, modern slavery and human trafficking. Moving to an online status is a step forward in tackling those who seek to control others. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/03/2019 answer text <p>There is a range of support available to those who require assistance ap-plying to the Scheme.</p><p><br>Generally, children under 21 applying as the dependent of their parent or guardian only need to provide evidence of their relationship to the parent or guardian to be granted the same status.</p><p>There is no need for them to prove their own UK residence.</p><p><br>The Home Office is willing to accept a broad range of evidence of applicant’s residency in the UK. Applicants will need to provide one document only dated in the last six months to be granted pre-settled status.</p><p>Guidance on the evidence EU citizens can submit is available on gov.uk (<a href="http://www.gov.uk/guidance/eu-settlement-scheme-evidence-of-uk-residence" target="_blank">www.gov.uk/guidance/eu-settlement-scheme-evidence-of-uk-residence</a>).</p><p>If applicants do not have enough evidence, the Home Office’s EU Settlement Scheme Resolution Centre will work with them to confirm when they have been resident in the UK based on all the evidence available.</p><p>For vulnerable applicants, caseworkers will be able to exercise discretion on compassionate grounds, based on the range of evidence available. Applicants will be able to post their identity document to the Home Office to be checked and returned quickly.
