All claims for asylum are considered on their individual merits in line with Home Office guidance, and where people establish a genuine need for protection, or a well founded fear of persecution, refugee status will be granted.</p><p>The Home Office has plans to improve the speed at which outstanding asylum claims are decided. Barriers are often varied and require time to clear.</p><p> </p><p>The Home Office has plans to reduce the number of outstanding undecided asylum claims and the speed at which they are processed. Plans include a staff retention strategy to ensure it retains its highly skilled asylum decision makers, further expansion of digital processes to increase caseworking flexibility and the creation of a new team in Bootle; specifically established to tackle older asylum cases. The MRP consists of non-asylum cases, where records indicate that an individual has made an unsuccessful application to remain in the UK and is therefore awaiting return to their country of origin.</p><p> </p><p>The cases of failed asylum seekers are not managed as part of the MRP, as these cases are managed separately by UK Visas and Immigration and Immigration Enforcement.
