<p>Whilst there has been significant progress in Afghanistan on human rights since
2001, these gains are fragile and the overall human rights picture remains poor. The
UK works closely with the National Unity Government, civil society and the international
community to promote the development of human rights and this continues to be a priority
for the UK.</p><p>We provide support to the development of the Afghanistan Independent
Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) to increase their capacity. Through the FCO Strategic
Programme Fund, the UK has contributed the following funding to the AIHRC:</p><p>2014-15:
£500,000</p><p>2015-16: £519,000</p><p>2016-17: (Forecast contribution) £320,000</p>
