answer text <p>Under the statutory Right to Buy, people are not eligible who already own a share of their home, including those who purchased their home under Low Start Shared Ownership.</p><p>Shared owners can ask their landlords to use the powers given by section 32 of Part II of the Housing Act 1985 to offer them a discount on a further share of their home. It is at the landlord’s discretion whether to offer such a discount.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Local authority tenants who have garages included in their secured tenancy have the right to buy their garage when they exercise the Right to Buy. If a garage is not in the tenancy the landlord may decide whether to sell.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Building Regulations and the supporting guidance already make it a requirement to have appropriate fire doors in new buildings that have shared access and corridors.</p><p>Housing providers, including social housing providers, are expected to carry out and regularly review a fire risk assessment for the common parts of their buildings and put in place the measures identified in those risk assessments, which could include provision in relation to fire doors. answer text <p>The Department wrote to local authority and housing association landlords on 18 June, setting out immediate actions that should be taken to identify residential tower blocks over 18 metres in height with aluminium type external cladding. The Department wrote again on 19 June to set out the process they should follow to submit samples of Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding for testing.</p><p>On 30 June, we published a note at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/explanatory-note-on-safety-checks-and-testing" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/explanatory-note-on-safety-checks-and-testing</a>. This note confirms the advice in those letters to local authorities, with further specific information about the tests being carried out.</p><p>On 6 July we published details of further tests to be carried out as the next step in helping landlords to ensure the safety of their buildings. These large scale tests will help establish how different types of ACM panels in combination with different types of insulation behave in a fire. Further detail about the next testing stage can be found at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/expert-panel-recommends-further-tests-on-cladding-and-insulation" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/news/expert-panel-recommends-further-tests-on-cladding-and-insulation</a>.</p><p>All social housing must comply with the Home Standard which requires registered providers of social housing to comply with all statutory health and safety requirements, including fire safety requirements. The Social Regulator considers all referrals it receives to determine whether they could represent a breach of its consumer standards. If such a breach is found, the Regulator will intervene if it finds that the breach has caused – or may cause – serious detriment to tenants or potential tenants.</p>

answer text <p>This is a matter for consideration as we take forward our work on fire safety.</p><p>The safety of tower block residents is paramount. The Government is asking all landlords of high rise buildings (including those in the private sector) to take action to check cladding and to act on interim safety advice. We have made our government funded testing process available to private residential building owners so that landlords can quickly check the safety of their cladding, take the necessary action and reassure their residents that they are safe in their homes.</p><p><br></p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>Local authorities are Category 1 responders under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. Category 1 responders are subject to the full set of civil protection duties. They are required to assess the risk of emergencies occurring and use this to inform contingency planning. They are also required to put in place emergency plans.
