answer text <p>Soon after the fire, we commissioned the Building Research Establishment to investigate the fire at The Cube building. Information from the report has been shared with the Expert Panel, Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.</p><p>The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) applies to non-domestic premises, including the common parts of multi-occupied residential buildings. The FSO requires the person responsible for the premises to undertake and review regularly a fire risk assessment of the premises. Fire and rescue authorities (FRAs) are the enforcing authorities for the FSO within their area.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government recognises the benefits that second homes can bring to local economies and to the tourism sector and does not wish to interfere with people’s freedom to live where they choose. However, the Government also recognises the adverse effect that large numbers of second homes can have on some areas. We have introduced a number of measures to help mitigate those effects, including introducing higher rates of Stamp Duty Land Tax for those purchasing additional properties</p><p><br>My department is speaking to local authorities and other stakeholders across relevant areas to understand the effects of second home ownership on local communities, and to hear their views on how best to address detrimental impacts where these occur.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>As part of the Tourism Recovery Plan published in June 2021, the Government committed to consult on the introduction of a Tourist Accommodation Registration Scheme in England.</p><p>The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will launch a call for evidence soon, to gather evidence on the size and shape of the market, and the positive and negative impacts of short term lets. The Secretary of State for DLUHC launched the Homes for Ukraine Scheme on 14 March 2022 in support of Ukrainian arrivals.</p><p>Other schemes and support are available for refugees fleeing conflicts in other parts of the world.</p><p>As has been the case under successive administrations, details of internal discussions are not normally disclosed.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government’s recent ‘British Energy Security Strategy’ sets out a series of changes to the planning system to support the delivery of renewable energy infrastructure. These technologies will play a key role in reaching the UK’s ambitious Carbon Budget and Net Zero targets. We will consult on amending planning rules to strengthen policy in favour of solar development on non-protected land, while ensuring communities continue to have a say and environmental protections remain in place.</p><p>Solar projects are subject to strict planning controls to protect local communities and the environment. For larger projects (over 50MW in England), planning decisions are made through the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP) regime. The NSIP regime is a rigorous process designed to scrutinise larger projects and developers must engage closely with local authorities and communities before approval is granted.</p><p>By law, planning applications are determined on their own merits in accordance with the development plan for the area unless material considerations indicate otherwise. There may be occasions though where other existing or approved development may be relevant in determining an application, in particular where it is integral as part of a more substantial development. It is for local planning authorities to consider proposals, they act independently of central Government, and Ministers have limited remit to intervene in their day-to-day affairs, particularly where it is integral as part of a more substantial development.</p>

From April 2019 to March 2020 over 242,000 homes were delivered - the highest level for over 30 years.</p><p>We have announced £10 billion investment in housing supply since the start of this Parliament, with our housing supply interventions due to ultimately unlock over 1 million new homes over the Spending Review 2021 period and beyond. This includes an additional £1.8 billion investment announced at Spending Review 2021.</p><p>We are also investing £11.5 billion in the new Affordable Homes Programme which will build up to 180,000 affordable homes, should economic conditions allow.</p>

answer text <p>Since 2010, we have delivered over 574,100 new affordable homes, including over 403,400 affordable homes for rent, of which over 154,600 homes for social rent. Between 2010 and 2021 over 57,000 affordable homes were built in the West Midlands, including over 42,985 affordable homes for rent, of which 18,098 were for social rent</p><p><br> Our £11.5 billion Affordable Homes Programme (AHP) will provide up to 180,000 new homes across the country, should economic conditions allow. Around half the homes will be for affordable and social rent and we will deliver more than double the amount of social rent compared to the current programme, with around 32,000 social rent homes due to be delivered</p><p><br> In August 2021 we announced £8.6 billion of allocations for this programme, which will deliver 119,000 affordable homes. £568 million of this will be going to the West Midlands to deliver over 10,500 affordable homes.</p> more like this
