answer text <p>The UK has been an active member of a group of international donors supporting Somaliland's National Election Commission to plan, prepare and deliver presidential elections. Throughout the process, our officials have engaged with Somaliland counterparts to reiterate the importance of free and fair elections as well as our commitment to working with any new and legitimate president for the benefit of all the people of Somaliland.</p><p>Our Ambassador in Somalia met the President-elect on 24 November and released a video statement congratulating the President-elect on 21 November (<a href="https://twitter.com/DConcar/status/932995880831127554" target="_blank">https://twitter.com/DConcar/status/932995880831127554</a>). answer text <p>The UK invested £2.18 million to plan, prepare and deliver biometric voter registration in Somaliland. Over 870,000 people have registered, more than half are women. The UK is providing an additional £1.4 million in funding to support the broader Somaliland electoral cycle, including civic education.</p><p>The UK is also providing £202,017 to fund a 60-strong international election observation mission for the delayed Somaliland Presidential election, now scheduled for November 2017.</p><p>The UK confirmed on 26 January 2017 that no UK funding would be used to cover additional costs associated with electoral delays.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK strongly supports the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and we continue to lobby the Government of South Sudan to cooperate fully with the mission so that it is able to fulfil its mandate to protect civilians, monitor the human rights situation in South Sudan, and secure the delivery of humanitarian aid.</p><p>As part of our commitment to the pursuit of peace and stability in South Sudan, we have contributed up to 400 medical and engineering troops to UNMISS to provide vital engineering and medical support, which will help to improve the delivery of the mission. answer text <p>The Government's view is that the recent expansion of the membership of the National Dialogue is a step in the right direction. The dialogue must be inclusive. But there is still very limited representation of the many constituencies opposed to the Government of South Sudan, and insufficient mechanisms for civil society to engage. Political freedom and a free media are essential elements of any successful process.</p><p>The UK continues to call on all parties to cease hostilities, allow access for humanitarian aid workers, and engage in genuine dialogue.</p> more like this

A further £63m for drought relief in Somalia is currently being allocated. Sub-national allocations are not recorded for our aid to Somalia, but our humanitarian assistance is allocated on the basis of need, ensuring that Somaliland gets its fair share.</p> more like this
