<p>Chequers is not a government building; it is run and managed by an independent trust. Under the Chequers Estate Act 1958 it has been the practice, under successive Governments, for the Estate to receive a grant-in-aid payment. Staffing numbers and salaries are a matter for the Trust.</p>
