answer text <p>Nuclear rhetoric from Russia is unhelpful. It is designed to deter and distract from its barbaric invasion of Ukraine. The Government continues to call on Russia to de-escalate, starting by ceasing its assault on Ukraine and withdrawing its forces.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The UK has well developed contingency plans to respond to a wide range of eventualities. The plans and supporting arrangements have been developed, refined and tested over many years. The UK’s plans are risk-based and built on the principle of generic capabilities which are able to respond to a wide range of events, augmented by specific, niche capabilities, where needed and warranted by the risk. The scale of these capabilities is driven by classified planning assumptions derived from the UK’s National Security Risk Assessment. A public facing version is published in the form of the National Risk Register.</p><p> </p> more like this

I have, therefore, asked the Authority to respond.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Professor Sir Ian Diamond | National Statistician</strong></p><p>Kenny MacAskill MP<br>House of Commons<br>London<br>SW1A 0PW</p><p>19 October 2021</p><p>Dear Mr MacAskill,</p><p>As National Statistician and Chief Executive of the UK Statistics Authority, I am responding to your Parliamentary Question regarding the publication of Gross Domestic Product on a per capita basis for the population of (a) Scotland, (b) Wales, (c) England, (d) North East of England and (e) North West of England for each year between 2000 and 2019 (58515).</p><p>Table 1 shows gross domestic product per head<sup>1</sup> of population in pounds (£) for Scotland, Wales, England, North East of England and North West of England for each year between 2000 and 2019. The estimates in Table 1 are chained volume measures, which means the effects of inflation have been removed. These are often referred to as ‘real terms’ figures. Estimates in current prices, which include the effects of inflation, are also available<sup>2</sup>.</p><p>Yours sincerely,</p><p>Professor Sir Ian Diamond</p><p>1 ‘Per head’ is used in this release. ‘Per head’ and ‘per capita’ mean per individual of the population</p><p>2 <a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdomesticproductgdp/bulletins/regionaleconomicactivitybygrossdomesticproductuk/1998to2019/relateddata" target="_blank">Regional gross domestic product in current prices, along with all our other estimates of regional economic activity are available.</a></p><p> </p>
