answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/09/2022 answer text <p>VAT has been designed as a broad-based tax on consumption, and the 20 per cent standard rate applies to the vast majority of goods and services.</p><p> </p><p>It would be administratively challenging for suppliers to identify and apply a different VAT treatment to supplies based on the type of event and for HMRC to ensure that the VAT treatment and VAT accounting is applied correctly throughout the supply chain. Businesses and organisations in the supply chain are normally able to recover VAT on costs. Once it is established, the same will be true for companies that may wish to use the Special Purpose Vehicle. We have consistently raised concerns with Iran about its regional behaviour, including at the highest levels, and urged them to end supply of weapons including missiles to the Houthis. Such transfers threaten regional security and prolong the conflict in Yemen. In addition, the EU has in place more than 200 sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities for activities of concern including ballistic missile activity and IRGC links, including against the IRGC in its entirety.
