answer text <p>DFID’s work has been pivotal in supporting the governments of Bangladesh and Nepal to respond quickly and effectively to help people who have been affected. In each affected country:</p><p> </p><ul><li><strong>Bangladesh</strong>: DFID made the first international contribution of £660,000 – the largest contributor after Government of Bangladesh itself -to those affected by the floods, via a consortium of NGOs. This will help over 60,000 people with food, shelter, and water and sanitation.</li><li><strong>Nepal:</strong> DFID has also allocated £400,000 to the Nepal Red Cross Society for water, sanitation, livelihood recovery and health. DFID has also responded through the START Fund global consortia of NGOs, which responds to small and medium emergencies. The multi-donor global START Fund has allocated £325,000.</li><li><strong>India:</strong> The START Fund has allocated £400,000 for India. The Indian Government has not requested assistance.</li><li><strong>Pakistan</strong>: DFID has funded a rapid assessment around Karachi and Sindh to identify potential needs.</li></ul><p> </p>
