DSIT works in partnership with relevant risk owning departments, agencies and regulators, to ensure we assess and prepare for these risks in a timely manner.</p><p>In the White Paper we committed to publishing the risk register. Ofcom is the regulator for this regime. It will set out the steps providers can take to fulfil these duties in codes of practice, which must be approved by Parliament before they can take effect.</p><p> </p><p>Ofcom is clear that services on the ‘dark web’ are in scope of the Act. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/03/2024 answer text <p>The government is committed to making the UK the safest place to be a child online, as evidenced by the landmark Online Safety Act.</p><p> </p><p>Harmful and age-inappropriate online content and activity can be particularly damaging for children. These duties will come into force once Ofcom has completed its consultation and publication of the relevant Codes of Practice.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The Act also updates Ofcom’s statutory media literacy duty to require it to take tangible steps to prioritise the public's awareness of and resilience to misinformation and disinformation online. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/03/2024 answer text <p>The Government takes the issue of information threats to national security very seriously, including threats posed by foreign states, and the use of AI and deepfakes. DSIT works closely across government and with social media platforms, civil society groups, academia, and international partners, to tackle these risks.</p><p> </p><p>DSIT’s National Security Online Information Team (NSOIT) is focused on threats from foreign states, as well as risks emerging from the use of deepfakes to imitate elected leaders and interfere with elections and the use of bots to drive disinformation and fuel division.</p><p> </p><p>The Online Safety Act will also address a range of threats posed by AI. The Act will force companies to take action against illegal content online, including illegal AI-generated content, and will require companies to take steps to remove this illegal content if they become aware of it on their services. The team is focused solely on risks posed to national security and public safety, including threats posed by foreign states as well as risks to election integrity.</p><p> </p><p>NSOIT is comprised of civil servants who are employed by DSIT. The team’s size and membership is adjusted according to the nature of the threat which is being faced at any one time. The work produced by NSOIT is shared with other Government departments who have an interest in its areas of focus.
