A report published by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills contains estimates of the number of jobs within the wider green economy and its supply chain for each of the twelve statistical regions of the UK. These included:</p><p>· Using wastes for energy where it maximises carbon and cost effectiveness and where it is consistent with the waste hierarchy</p><p>· Using sustainable biomass as a transitional fuel to reduce carbon emissions from current coal power generation</p><p>· The promotion of combined heat and power generation to make more efficient use of biomass resources</p><p>The Department has acted to support biomass deployment in line with these pathways. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/10/2014 answer text <p>The UK Government is bringing in sustainability criteria for those supplying biomass under the RO and RHI. These were initially introduced as reporting requirements from April 2014, with the intention of bringing in mandatory criteria from April 2015. No data has yebeen published.</p><p>In order to calculate the greenhouse gas saving of a fuel, suppliers are required to sum each of the emission components but are not required to report the component savings. It is the responsibility of generators to determine where in their supply chain the saving is made.</p><p>Power suppliers using bioliquids have had to comply with the Renewable Energy Directive’s sustainability criteria since 2011, which includes a 35% minimum greenhouse gas emissions saving. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/10/2014 answer text <p>The UK has some of the toughest bioenergy sustainability criteria in the world and the UK remains at the forefront of improving sustainability standards. From next year payments will only be made for biomass which meets these standards.</p><p>The greenhouse gas requirement uses the standard EU methodology and requires that biomass conversions represent at least a 69% GHG saving compared to coal. Generators may also use the Bioenergy Emissions and Counterfactual model to help in sourcing their biomass responsibly. The average GHG emissions saving of bioliquids reported to Ofgem in the year 2012-2013 was 84.7%.</p><p>In addition, the UK Government is bringing in tough new sustainability criteria for those supplying energy and power from biomass and biogas.</p><p>Initially these were introduced as reporting requirements from April 2014. Next year we are introducing a mandatory 69% greenhouse gas saving1 requirement.
