answer text
At Budget, the Government announced the outcome of the Patient Capital Review, setting out an action plan to unlock £20 billion of new investment to finance growth in innovative firms. The Government will set-up a new £2.5 billion subsidiary of the British Business Bank, expand tax-relief schemes and remove regulatory barriers to encourage long-term investment from pension funds. The subsidiary of the British Business Bank will operate on a commercial basis and will be set up with the intention to float or sell it once it has a sufficient track record. This action plan will benefit a range of sectors including the life sciences sector to commercialize research, develop new technologies and support other forms of innovation.

As announced on 6 December, the Government and the life sciences sector have agreed a transformative billion-pound Sector Deal worth close to £2.5bn of investment in innovative new treatments and medical technologies that will improve patient lives and drive economic growth in the UK. The Deal commits an expected £1.5bn from private and charitable sectors. The Life Sciences Sector Deal Implementation Board will agree implementation plans for each section of the Deal including agreed success metrics. The NHS will be represented on that board.

answer text
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) discloses personal data from its registers to authorised third parties with a legitimate reason for requesting it. Data is only disclosed where it is fair and lawful to do so and in compliance with the Data Protection Act. Comprehensive safeguards are in place to ensure that DVLA data provided to third parties is requested for specific purposes and is used appropriately. The DVLA’s data release charges are set to recover the cost of providing the information. While DVLA is permitted to charge a fee for the release of information under the reasonable cause provisions, it is not permitted to profit from it. The fees are set to recover the related administrative costs and so that it is the applicant and not the taxpayer who funds this activity.

answer text
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) requires specific information or documentation before it will process a notification that a vehicle has been exported or taken off the road.

In order to be able to make such notifications electronically (where such a service is available) a unique reference number from the vehicle registration certificate and/or vehicle excise duty renewal letter must be used. This helps to ensure that it is the registered keeper of the vehicle making the notification.

If the notification cannot be made electronically, the registered keeper must use the appropriate section of the vehicle registration certificate or write to the DVLA.

When the off road or export notification has updated the DVLA’s records, a refund of any remaining vehicle excise duty will be issued to the registered keeper. Unexpectedly receiving this payment should prompt the keeper to contact the DVLA if they did not make the notification themselves.
