answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/01/2019 answer text <p><strong></strong>The Department funds research on health and social care through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). NIHR welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including heart attacks in women. It is not usual practice to ring-fence funds for particular topics or conditions.</p><p> </p><p>There have been 28 studies directly funded by the NIHR relating to heart attacks (myocardial infarction) in the last five financial years, from 2013/14 to 2017/18, all with female participants, including a randomised controlled trial investigating the prevention of cardiac toxicity in breast cancer patients. Additionally, over the same period, there has been support through NIHR Clinical Research Networks for 23 studies investigating heart attacks all of which included female participants, with a total expenditure of £1.9 million. The British Women’s Heart and Health Study, which commenced in 2009, was directly funded by the NIHR and specifically looked at heart disease in women.</p><p> </p><p>Preventing and managing cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a priority for NHS England, as indicated by the inclusion of CVD in the NHS Long Term Plan. CVD prevention is also a key theme in NHS England’s Five Year Forward View and their NHS RightCare programme. The NHS Long Term Plan outlines the expectation that all National Health Service funded care providers should have implemented the improvement standards by 2023/24 and the Care Quality Commission is working with NHS Improvement to consider how they can ensure adoption of the improvement standards by trusts.</p><p> </p><p>To monitor and ensure compliance with the improvement standards, NHS Improvement has commissioned the NHS Benchmarking Network to facilitate national data collection across all NHS trusts. NHS Improvement has provided tools for trusts to self-assess their performance against the improvement standards which auto-generate performance and ratings scales. Member<ins class="ministerial"> on behalf of a constituent</ins>, <ins class="ministerial">there are circumstances in which the body may provide patient information to a Member of Parliament without the Member evidencing the explicit consent of the patient, so long as that information is provided in accordance with the requirements set out in paragraph 24 of Schedule 1 to the Data Protection Act 2018</ins><del class="ministerial">it must obtain the consent of the patient before doing so</del>. An inquiry or an investigation will almost certainly require the disclosure by the NHS body of information relating to the constituent as patient.</p><p> </p><p>The NHS body must be content that there is a legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation/Data Protection Act for processing patient information (i.e. disclosing and sharing it for the purposes of the investigation). This is easier to satisfy if it is clear the patient has consented to the hon.
