In April 2019 we published the Online Harms White Paper which set out our intention to establish in law a new ‘duty of care’ on companies towards their users. The ‘duty of care’ will ensure that companies have robust systems and processes in place to tackle illegal content and protect users.</p><p>We will publish a full government response to the Online Harms White Paper consultation which will provide further detail on our proposals. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/11/2020 answer text <p>The government launched a call for evidence on 23 September 2020 to seek detailed information on the impact of loot boxes on players, particularly children and young people. The call for evidence will run until 22 November 2020 and examines concerns that loot boxes may encourage gambling-like behaviour and lead to problem gambling, as well as considering the size and scale of the loot box market in the UK, and the impact of current voluntary and statutory protections.</p><p>The government stands ready to take action should the outcomes of the call for evidence support taking a new approach to ensure users, and particularly young people, are better protected.</p><p>The government also continues to work with industry to encourage the use of parental controls that can disable or limit access and spending on video games devices. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/11/2020 answer text <p>The Government supports scriptwriters as part of its broader sectoral support for the film sector, in particular through the approximately £70 million provided annually (including Lottery funding) to our lead agency for film the British Film Institute, and its funded partners. This funding supports screenwriting specific opportunities offered as part of the BFI Film Academy and BFI NETWORK, which invest in the next generation of screenwriting talent.</p><p>While the Department has not undertaken such specific research, the global box office performance of UK films and foreign productions which draw on UK source material is a good indicator of the value of scriptwriting. The attached table details the number of CRF applications (a) received (b) accepted and (c) rejected for recovery grants and capital grants by region.</p><p>This data does not include applications for which decision-making is yet to conclude, including some applications to the BFI’s Culture Recovery Fund for Independent Cinemas (which closed to applications on 31st October) and some capital grants.</p><p>The Government has always been clear that this funding would not be enough to help every organisation, and that it is important there was a robust set of criteria which applicants had to meet. We’ve supported the self-employed with over £13 billion in grants and the Chancellor has doubled the generosity of the self-employed grant extension scheme from 20% to 40% of people’s profits. The expanded Jobs Support Scheme, announced by the Chancellor on 22 October, will include more generous and frequent cash grants, and more help for the self-employed.</p><p>DCMS continues to engage with HMT to feed into their assessment of the potential impacts of Government support. We will ensure the needs of our sectors are also factored into the developing economic response, and that DCMS sectors, including the live music industry, are supported throughout this time.</p><p>The Arts Council England has made £119 million available to individuals (including freelancers and self-employed), with £23.1 million already distributed and £95.9 million currently available to apply for via open funds.</p><p>The £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund will benefit freelancers, because it will invest in organisations and help them to reopen, and restart performances.</p><p><strong><p><p></strong></p> answering member constituency Gosport answering member printed Caroline Dinenage question first answered 02/11/2020 15:01:19 answering member 4008 label Biography information for Dame Caroline Dinenage
