answer text
Entry and exit from Gaza is difficult and can, at times, be impossible. Entry is through either Israel, with permission from the Israeli authorities, or Egypt, with permission from the Egyptian authorities (although this border has been closed almost entirely since October 2014). Members and Peers should be aware that at this time the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all travel to Gaza. We do not make representations on behalf of British Nationals, including parliamentarians, wishing to travel.

The Government has repeatedly made clear to the Chinese and Hong Kong Governments that the decision to refuse to allow the members of the previous Foreign Affairs Committee to enter Hong Kong in December 2014 was wholly unjustified and counter-productive. The Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Office, my right hon. Friend the Member for East Devon (Mr Swire) visited Hong Kong on 8 January and met the President of the Legislative Council and a wide range of legislators, which was particularly important given their key role in the constitutional reform process. In addition, FCO officials have regular contacts with the Hong Kong Government. It is the Government’s assessment that British Parliamentarians can visit Hong Kong.

answer text
We are concerned by continuing reports that Hizballah maintains a cross-border tunnel system in Southern Lebanon and significant stockpiles of missiles which could threaten Israel. These weapons are in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which mandates that “there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese state”. Following fighting which took place between Hizballah and the Israel Defence Forces in January, we have continued to urge all parties to cooperate with UN Interim Force in Lebanon in order to maintain calm along the border and to refrain from further provocative acts. We continue to monitor the situation closely.
more like this

answer text
We are deeply concerned about the destruction of cultural heritage in Syria and Iraq, including the specific threat to Palmyra. The United Kingdom co-sponsored both UN Security Council Resolution 2199 (2015), which condemns the destruction of cultural heritage and requires member states to take measures to prevent the trade in looted antiquities, and UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/69/281 (28 May 2015), which expresses the outrage of the global community at attacks on cultural heritage as a tactic of war to spread terror and hatred. My Rt Hon Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (Mr Hammond) discussed the protection of cultural heritage with his counterparts at the meeting of the Global Anti-ISIL Coalition Small Group in Paris on 2 June, at which UNESCO Director-General Ms Irina Bokova was present. Ultimately the only way of safeguarding these valuable historic sites is by defeating ISIL and establishing a lasting peace in both Syria and Iraq.
more like this

answer text The British Government recognises that those suspected of crimes must be held to account in fair trials which respect the rights of both the defendants and the victims. We remain concerned about judicial processes which result in mass sentences, and the questions that continue to be raised about the adherence to due process in Egypt's courts. These damage the reputation of Egypt’s judiciary and undermine international confidence in the fair application of the law. more like this
