answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/12/2014 answer text <p>A very wide range of views was expressed by participants at the Conference, as reflected in the factual summary of the conference issued under the Chair’s authority. Some argued that the way to achieve the goal of a world without nuclear weapons was to ban weapons now, or to fix a timetable for their elimination. This approach fails to take account of the stability and security which nuclear weapons can help to secure. None of us would gain from a loss of that stability. The United Kingdom believes that the UN Disarmament Machinery and the Non-Proliferation Treaty provide the right forum for working towards a world without nuclear weapons. The UK Ambassador restated our concern at the humanitarian consequences which could result from the use of nuclear weapons. That is why the UK works extremely hard to prevent the use of nuclear weapons, to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and to keep our own nuclear weapons safe and secure. We are also committed to working towards a world without nuclear weapons. We shall, however, retain a credible, continuous and submarine-based deterrent for as long as the global security situation makes it necessary. The UK intervention at the conference has already been published on the gov.uk website. We are concerned about recent fighting around the Lebanon-Syria border and attacks by ISIL and Al Nusra Front on the Lebanese Army and Lebanese towns in the border area. There are currently around 1.2 million refugees in Lebanon, creating pressure on services which in turn has led to tensions with some host communities. We are committed to supporting Lebanon’s stability. By the end of this year, the UK will have provided £150 million since the start of the Syrian crisis to support refugees and vulnerable communities in Lebanon. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/12/2014 answer text <p>As announced in the Natural Environment White Paper, the Government is committed to the negotiation of a new implementing agreement under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. These should, in particular, address the designation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and the fact that there is currently no universally accepted legal framework for the international recognition of MPAs in the high seas. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/12/2014 answer text <p>The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)’s main sources of revenue come from oil sales and extortion. Other sources have included foreign donors, kidnap ransom payments, and money stolen during its advances in recent months.</p><p>Air strikes targeting oil infrastructure and the liberation of oil fields have significantly reduced ISIL’s ability to access and refine oil.</p><p>As part of our strategy to combat ISIL, the UK led work on UN <br>Security Council Resolution 2170 which was adopted unanimously on 15 August. It condemns ISIL, the al-Nusra front and other terrorist groups listed under Al-Qaeda sanctions. The resolution urges members to take measures to choke ISIL’s sources of finance.</p><p>We are working with countries in the Middle East to counter the threat from terrorists and extremists across the region.
