answer text <p>The Tech Nation 2019 report, states that the UK attracts more VC tech investment than anywhere else in Europe, with £6.3 billion raised in 2018.</p><p> </p><p>During London Tech Week, June 2019, DIT hosted 20 delegations from our international Posts consisting of 600 innovative tech companies keen to invest and scale up in the UK and secured £1.2 billion of new FDI announcements creating 850 new jobs.</p><p> </p><p>Through the AI Sector Deal, this government is actively supporting the development of talent, nationwide, ensuring that this position is strengthened and investment in AI, exceeding £3.8 billion, continues to grow.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Our priority is securing a deal with the European Union as this will avoid disruption to our global trading relationships. Until that deal is in place, we must prepare for all eventualities. The Government has set out what issues business, including exporting businesses, need to consider in a no-deal scenario and the Public Information Campaign directs business to that information on GOV.UK.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for International Trade’s frontline International Trade Advisers are regularly updated with the latest GOV.UK updates and information to help SMEs across England prepare for leaving the EU. International Trade Advisers are using this information to ensure SMEs are promptly referred to the latest available EU Exit business readiness information, including the HMRC Partnership Pack. My Department is also working closely with our counterparts in the Devolved Administrations to ensure that similar guidance is available to SMEs in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.</p><p> </p><p>In addition my Department continues to work closely with BEIS and HMRC to ensure that the published Public Information Campaign guidance is widely circulated. My Department has briefed Business Representative Organisations, including the BCC and CBI, on the support available to help companies prepare for the UK leaving the EU. Other Government Departments are also supporting this cross-Government effort to help SMEs as they prepare for leaving the EU. This includes a BEIS business readiness bulletin for trade associations, business representative bodies and business intermediaries and HMRC webinars for SMEs.</p>

answer text <p>The Canada-UK bilateral trading relationship is an important one and vital to our economy. Total trade between the UK and Canada in 2018 totalled £18.4bn and both sides have committed to deepening our commercial relationship further.</p><p>My Ministerial colleagues and I have regular contact with the Canadian Administration, business representatives and others, including through our diplomatic missions in Canada, to support and increase investment and trade flows.</p><p>Both the Prime Minister and PM Trudeau have publicly committed to a ‘seamless transition’ of the Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (CETA) as the UK leaves the EU and to avoid a cliff edge for Canadian and UK businesses.</p> more like this

answer text <p><strong></strong></p><p>The Government, through our overseas network, HM Trade Commissioners, and through Ministerial and Trade Envoy visits, works actively to support trade and reduce barriers for UK companies looking to export to Asia by engaging with the region’s governments and business sectors. Recently we’ve secured market access for UK dairy products to China, worth £240m over five years, and beef and lamb to Japan, worth £127m over five years. We are also lobbying multilaterally, establishing a UK Mission to ASEAN in 2019, and are considering the possibility of the CPTPP as a priority FTA once we leave the EU.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK produces billions of pounds worth of high-quality goods and services each year, and there is a clear demand from around the world for these products with UK exports rising 2.0% (12bn) to <strong>£626.4bn</strong>, in the 12 months ending October 2018. [<em>ONS UK Trade: October 2018</em>]. The Export Strategy, launched in August 2018, sets out how the Government will encourage, inform, connect and finance UK businesses to enable them to take advantage of this international demand.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for International Trade’s offer to UK businesses includes impartial export advice from International Trade Advisors and our overseas network in markets across the world. British businesses are also promoted via the government’s network of Trade Envoys and given assistance in the Midlands and Northern Powerhouse through our Export Champions.</p><p> </p><p>The Department also runs a major UK facing marketing campaign called “Exporting is Great” which inspires and encourages business to start exporting and seek new markets. The campaign is UK wide and includes a mobile outreach export hub.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>DIT is building on the Export Strategy with a whole of Government Approach and has recently enhanced digital service on great.gov.uk which allows business to connect to over 20,000 export opportunities and ensures finance is at the heart of its offer: in 2017/18 UKEF provided £2.5bn in support, helping 191 UK companies sell to 75 markets around the world. 77% of these companies were SMEs.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The full Export Strategy can be found here: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/export-strategy-supporting-and-connecting-businesses-to-grow-on-the-world-stage" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/export-strategy-supporting-and-connecting-businesses-to-grow-on-the-world-stage</a></p>

answer text <p>The UK remains committed to our deep relationships with our global partners, including Brazil. In March 2018, my Rt Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade co-chaired the tenth UK-Brazil Joint Economic and Trade Committee with the Brazilian Minister for Industry, Foreign Trade and Services. The ministers reiterated their commitment to facilitating increased trade, creating opportunities and enhancing bilateral economic relations. In August 2018, the 3<sup>rd</sup> UK-Brazil Economic and Financial Dialogue achieved advances across several areas including procurement, tax, infrastructure and finance. We are seeking to put in place new arrangements to maintain our relationship with these states and continue to have an open dialogue with them about how this can best be achieved.</p><p> </p><p>Following the Secretary of State’s meeting with the Icelandic Foreign Minister in October, DIT continues to promote the closest trading links with Iceland recognising that total trade amounted to over £1.8bn in 2017, an increase of just over 18% on 2016.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for International Trade supports exports for the whole of the food and drink sector and in 2017 game meat exports were worth £7 million.</p><p> </p><p>Game meat exports receive the same level of support as the rest of the food and drink sector through initiatives such as the GREAT campaign and the recently launched Export Strategy. We also work with a variety of food and drink trade associations to ensure that the Government is providing the right kind of support.
