This is an increase of up to £900 million in cash terms by 2019/20. The public can be confident that over the next four years the police will have the resources they need to carry on cutting crime, fighting terrorism and keeping the people of this country safe.</p><p>The proportion of police officers in frontline roles in England and Wales has increased from 89% in March 2010 to 92% in March 2015. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/01/2016 answer text <p>The police in England and Wales receive funding from two main sources - central Government and the police precept component of council tax.</p><p>The table below shows the amount of revenue funding provided by central Government to the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for the West Midlands (formerly the West Midlands Police Authority), and the amount of central Government revenue funding provided by central Government to PCCs (formerly police authorities) and their London equivalents in England from 2009/2010 to 2015/2016. It also shows precept funding for the relevant years.</p><p>Overall police spending (central Government funding plus precept) will be protected in real terms over the next Spending Review period. This is an increase of up to £900 million in cash terms by 2019/20.</p><p>Police reform is working and, according to the independent Crime Survey for England and Wales, crime has fallen by more than a quarter since 2010. This is the lowest level since the survey began in 1981. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/12/2015 answer text <p>The Home Office worked closely with policing partners and other Government Departments as part of Spending Review preparations to ensure flexibility on council tax is a key part of the Spending Review settlement for the police.</p><p>The Spending Review makes provision for overall police spending to be protected in real terms, when council tax income is taken into account. The ten Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) in England with the lowest precept levels in each year will be able to raise their police precept level by up to £5 per year over the Spending Review period, compared to the usual two per cent. A number of forces have already taken steps to develop apprentice models and a cross-force working group has been established by forces to consider the matter.</p><p>We worked closely with policing partners, as part of Spending Review preparations, to understand the impacts on forces of transition to the single-tier state pension.
