answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring that young people are protected and treated appropriately while in police custody. That is why we supported amendments in the House to change the law in regard to the detention of 17 year <br>olds in England and Wales.<br><br>We have consulted a number of key stakeholders and partners, including Northern Ireland.
