answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/03/2021 answer text <p>We are committed to increasing tree planting and are setting out policies to achieve this in the Government’s action plan on trees, including planting and protecting trees in and around urban areas. We are already delivering on this through:</p><p> </p><ul><li>£80 million of charity-led projects funded through the Green Recovery Challenge Fund, the first round of which supported a wide range of projects to protect, restore and connect people with nature, including a national street tree sponsorship scheme and tree planting around the NHS estate.</li><li>The £10 million Urban Tree Challenge Fund, supporting planting of up to 134,000 trees, including 20,000 street trees.</li><li>£12.1 million investment in England's ten Community Forests to create high quality, accessible woodlands around towns and cities.</li><li>£2.5 million to pilot innovative means to grow trees outside woods, in partnership with Local Authorities.</li></ul><p> </p><p>This complements wider support for urban greening through:</p><p> </p><ul><li>Creation of a Nature Recovery Network, connecting wildlife-rich places across our towns, cities and countryside.</li><li>Development of a National Framework of Green Infrastructure Standards to help local authorities, developers and communities to improve greening provision.</li><li>Designing and investing in healthy places to live and work through the forthcoming National Model Design Code, Towns Fund and new £4 billion Levelling Up Fund.</li></ul> answering member constituency Taunton Deane answering member printed Rebecca Pow question first answered 16/03/2021 12:58:03 answering member 4522 label Biography information for Rebecca Pow

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/10/2020 answer text <p>To date 18,717 Government-funded trees have been planted under the Urban Tree Challenge Fund nationally, of which 93 trees have been planted in the Harrow West constituency.</p><p> </p><p>The planting of a further 160,130 trees is planned under the Urban Tree Challenge Fund nationally by the end of March 2021, of which 54 are planned to be planted in the Harrow West constituency. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/05/2020 answer text <p><strong> </strong></p><p>The Government recognises the value of our urban trees and is committed to planting and protecting them. This is reflected in the significant increase in investment on trees announced in the budget. Urban trees play a crucial role in providing health and wellbeing benefits for communities, flood risk alleviation and carbon sequestration.</p><p> </p><p>The Urban Tree Challenge Fund (UTCF) was launched in May 2019 and aims to plant 130,000 trees across England’s towns and cities by 2021. The first round of the UTCF closed in August 2019 and is funding the planting of over 22,000 large trees and 28,000 small trees in urban areas. The second round of the UTCF opened in March, for successful applicants to plant this winter. As well as providing funding for the planting of large and small trees in urban and peri-urban areas, the UTCF provides three years of establishment payments following planting.</p><p> </p><p>We will shortly be consulting the public on an English Tree Strategy. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/03/2020 answer text <p>The Government is committed to increasing the number of trees on streets and in urban environments, in and around the places where most people live and work.</p><p> </p><p>In 2019, we launched the £10 million Urban Tree Challenge Fund which is providing matched funding to councils, charities, community groups, private sector bodies and individuals to plant 130,000 trees, including 20,000 street trees, in our towns and cities.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, we are giving hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren across England, mostly in urban areas, the opportunity to plant trees in schools and local communities, as part of our 1 million Trees for Schools programme in partnership with the Community Forest Trust and the Woodland Trust.</p><p> </p><p>The Environment Bill includes new duties on councils to consult when felling street trees and increased penalties for illegal felling. As part of our 25 Year Environment Plant, we have worked with stakeholders to develop and publish an Urban Tree Manual and we are developing policies to ensure all new streets are lined with trees.
