answer text <p>There are no plans to regulate how private companies deal with correspondence through Ofcom or other statutory bodies, as it would not be within their remit.</p><p>More widely, <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/public-bodies-reform#:~:text=Arm's%2Dle" target="_blank">Arm’s-length Bodies (ALBs)</a> are a vital part of how the Government delivers policies and public services. It is important that they are accountable and transparent. It is a routine courtesy and a right of Parliament that members receive full and timely responses and I encourage Members who get an unsatisfactory response to write to me and I will endeavour to take this up for any Member who does not get a proper response.</p><p>The Parliamentary Capability Team in the Cabinet Office provides training on managing parliamentary work to civil servants of all departments and grades, including civil servants in ALBs.</p> more like this

answer text <p>As set out in the Cabinet Office Guide to Handling Correspondence (<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/handling-government-correspondence-guidance" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/handling-government-correspondence-guidance</a>) all correspondence to Ministers from MPs should be signed off at an appropriate ministerial level. Official replies to letters from MPs should only occur where the correspondent has written about the day-to-day operations of an executive agency or a non-departmental public body, in which case the relevant Chief Executive may be asked to reply, or where a Minister determines that the particular circumstances mean an official reply would be more appropriate.</p> more like this

We recognise the great importance of the effective and timely handling of correspondence.</p><p>The letter received on 5 February 2021 has been passed to the Department for International trade, as the Department best placed to provide a helpful response.</p><p>Lord Frost has now responded to the letter dated 25 March, and Lord Agnew has responded to letters dated 22 January, 26 January, 9 February and 11 February.</p><p>Lord Agnew will be responding to the remaining letters, dated 22 January and 31 March. We have been investigating the issues raised in your letter to the Benefit Director on 6 December.</p><p> </p><p>Whilst the Department aims to provide a full response to MP enquires on behalf of their constituents within 15 working days, there will be occasions where, for a variety of reasons this is not possible. In this case additional information received from the customer generated further enquiries. Regrettably, the MP's office was not kept informed of progress when it became clear in this particular case there would be a delay. A full response has now been issued to the hon. answer text <p>The Secretary of State holds regular meetings with the Director General, Operations to discuss operational matters and performance. The process of replies being sent to hon. Members has not featured in discussions to date, primarily because the Department’s performance in respect of the timeliness of responses is broadly on track. For the calendar year 2016, 89% of responses to hon. Members were issued within 15 days, against a target of 90% in 15 days. The 90% target reflects the fact that some matters raised by hon. Members can be particularly complex and, in such cases, it is not always possible to respond within 15 days.</p> more like this
