answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/07/2020 answer text <p>The £350 million National Tutoring Programme will increase the availability of high-quality tutoring across England, enabling schools to access provision for disadvantaged pupils at a subsidised rate. It will also place high-calibre graduate coaches in the most disadvantaged schools across the country to support pupils to catch up in key subjects. We will say more about the programme in due course.</p><p>The wider £650 million catch-up fund recognises that all pupils, irrespective of their background or location, have lost time in education. Whilst school leaders will decide how it is used, the intention is that this money will be spent on the most effective interventions. School leaders have the freedom to use the grant in a way that best meets the needs of their school and its pupils and are encouraged to make evidenced based decisions, drawing on information from the Education Endowment Foundation, in particular the recently published Pupil Premium Guide, available here: <a href="https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/public/files/Publications/Pupil_Premium_Guidance_iPDF.pdf" target="_blank">https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/public/files/Publications/Pupil_Premium_Guidance_iPDF.pdf</a>.</p><p>The guide recommends that, as well as focusing on developing high-quality teaching and targeted academic programmes, schools should invest their pupil premium in wider strategies that support pupils’ readiness to learn - this may include providing a breakfast meal.</p><p>In addition, the Department is investing up to £35 million into the National School Breakfast Programme between 2018 and 2021, using funds from Soft Drinks Industry Levy revenues. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2019 answer text <p>To teach a class of pupils with vision impairment, a teacher must hold a mandatory qualification, in addition to qualified teacher status. The Department is currently reviewing the educational outcomes of the mandatory qualifications for teachers of classes with vision impairment, to ensure they reflect the changing needs of the education system.</p><p>The Children and Families Act 2014 requires local authorities to work with parents, young people, and schools and colleges to keep the provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disability (SEND) under review and to consider carefully how best to meet the needs of children and young people in their area, including those with vision impairment. To support local authorities, the Department has announced an additional £250 million high needs funding, over this year and the next. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/03/2019 answer text <p>In relation to qualifications, this is a matter for Ofqual, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation. I have asked its Chief Regulator, Sally Collier, to write to the Hon. Member and a copy of her reply will be placed in the Libraries of both Houses. <br> <br> Ofqual regulates statutory national curriculum assessments. In doing this they have two statutory objectives: to promote the development and implementation of national assessments which give a reliable indication of achievement and indicate a consistent level of attainment, including over time, between comparable assessments; and to promote public confidence in national assessments. Ofqual has no specific powers to follow up with the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) if there are mistakes in national tests. Modified tests are developed by a Modified Test Agency contracted to STA, who conduct Quality Assurance proofing at different stages in the development of materials.
