answer text <p>The Defence Estate Optimisation Programme takes a long-term portfolio approach to transforming the Defence Estate into one fit for the future military needs of the Armed Forces.</p><p>Taken as a whole the programme is proven to provide value for money by using the receipts from disposal sites and other allocated funding to enable new investment into the Ministry of Defence retained core estate. This will then deliver enduring efficiencies in infrastructure operating costs.</p><p>Initial assessments into relocating the units presently based in Strensall to Gamecock Barracks are being undertaken with the costs considered as part of the whole programme.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Better Defence Estates Strategy aims to enhance military capability; this includes providing good training facilities. Gamecock Barracks is currently optimised for a different capability but the future collocation there of medical units will create opportunities to deliver the required training facilities. Gamecock Barracks is much closer to the specialist defence medical centres in Birmingham and Lichfield and so also provides better synergies in terms of training delivery and continuity of skills for Army medical personnel. Relocation of medical units to locations close to these centres brings a number of additional benefits, including enabling greater stability for Service families by reducing the mobility requirement for Service personnel.</p> more like this
