answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/09/2018 answer text <p>As part of the reforms to probation in 2015 all offenders, including those sentenced to less than 12 months, now get targeted support from probation providers when they leave prison to help them reintegrate into society. This includes working with local partners to help them find accommodation, which is provided by the local authority.</p><p>On 27 July, the MOJ announced our intention to end contracts with Community Rehabilitation Companies in 2020.We will be consulting on introducing changes so that probation services do more to help offenders find accommodation and employment on release from custody. We are investing an additional £22m per annum during the current contract period to ensure that CRCs deliver an enhanced ‘Through the Gate’ service to offenders leaving prison. This will also include sustained support to find accommodation and employment on discharge.</p><p>As part of the Government’s Rough Sleeping strategy, MoJ and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), will be investing approximately £6m over two years in a pilot scheme to help ex-offenders secure suitable accommodation upon release. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/09/2018 answer text <p>The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) is not aware of having received any applications to date for public funding for representation at an inquest from the families of the victims of Stephen Port.</p><p> </p><p>When assessing such applications in general, the Director of Legal Aid Casework (DLAC) must have regard to the Lord Chancellor’s guidance set out under section 4(3) of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offender’s Act (LASPO) 2012. The criteria applied by the Legal Aid Agency are outlined under Section 10 of LASPO. The DLAC must also determine whether an applicant meets the financial eligibility test as provided in the Civil Legal Aid (Financial Resources and Payment for Services) Regulations 2013, or decide whether to waive financial eligibility and/or contribution to costs in whole or in part, as well as satisfy the merits criteria set out in the Civil Legal Aid (Merits Criteria) Regulations 2013.</p><p> </p><p>An application for legal aid may be submitted to the LAA in order for such a determination to be made.</p> answering member printed Lord Keen of Elie question first answered 19/09/2018 08:47:52 answering member 4538 label Biography information for Lord Keen of Elie

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/09/2018 answer text <p>There is no information held about successful prosecutions for offences connected with trafficking in persons in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe.</p><p>However, the UK shares relevant information on organised immigration crime (OIC) with partners in source, transit and destination countries for illegal migration. This takes place both on a bilateral basis and through the European Migrant Smuggling Centre within Europol.</p><p>Through the multi-agency Organised Immigration Crime Taskforce, the government is improving the intelligence picture around OIC, modern slavery and human trafficking, undermining the criminal business model and building the capacity of upstream law enforcement partners to tackle the threat.</p><p>The police transformation program includes an analytical team, the Joint Slavery and Trafficking Analysis Centre (JSTAC) which is building and developing the strategic intelligence picture by improving data collection and focused analysis of the information gathered. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/09/2018 answer text <p>We have made sure that legal aid continues to be available in the most serious cases, for example where people’s life, liberty, or housing is at stake or where their children may be taken into care.</p><p> </p><p>Legal aid is available for the making, varying, discharging and appealing of certain Protection Orders where there is a real risk to an individual’s life or liberty.</p><p> </p><p>Challenges to Public Space Protection Orders do not currently fall within the scope of the legal aid scheme.
