answer text <p>The Government has taken several measures to ensure that no British organisations are profiting from or contributing to human rights violations in Xinjiang. Over the last year we introduced enhanced export controls, and announced plans to introduce financial penalties for organisations who fail to meet their statutory obligations to publish annual modern slavery statements.</p><p> </p><p>The overseas business risk guidance makes clear to UK companies the risks of operating in Xinjiang and urges them to conduct appropriate due diligence and consider their corporate responsibilities when making business decisions.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Government has taken action to support small businesses by reversing the National Insurance rise, saving small businesses approximately £4,200 on average, as well as raising the Employment Allowance to £5,000.</p><p> </p><p>The network of 38 Growth Hubs across England provides access to information and advice to SMEs, alongside our free Business Support Helpline. Businesses can also use the Apprenticeship Service to find out about funding to pay for apprenticeships.</p><p> </p><p>Furthermore, small businesses can access the Recovery Loan Scheme which helps smaller businesses access loans and other kinds of finance up to £2 million per business group so they can grow and invest.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK has substantially concluded negotiations on the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).</p><p>The Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) mechanism in CPTPP allows for investors to seek legal redress from a member state for unfair treatment they have received when accessing, or operating in CPTPP markets, for example if they have been discriminated against because of their nationality, which has caused loss or damage to their investment.</p><p>CPTPP includes specific provisions on the transparency of ISDS proceedings, including for tribunal documents and hearings to be made public.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Financial Reporting Standard 17 Retirement Benefits was superseded by Financial Reporting Standard 102 from 1 January 2015 onwards. As Financial Reporting Standard 102 is a UK standard, and not an international accounting standard, it is not subject to the assessment criteria set out in SI 2019/685.</p><p>In 2003, the EU formally adopted International Accounting Standard 19. The standard, and subsequent amendments were assessed against similar criteria to those in SI 2019/685, now used by the UK Endorsement Board.</p><p>No retrospective assessment of International Accounting Standard 19 was required, or was conducted, for the UK’s onshoring of EU adopted international accounting standards following the UK’s exit from the EU.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The high standard Financial Services chapter in CPTPP opens financial service markets between members, expanding opportunities for UK financial services and easing frictions to cross-border trade and investment. Joining will open up new markets to UK firms, including improved commitments which reduce red tape and cut costs. At the same time, CPTPP members retain the ability to regulate financial markets and institutions for legitimate public policy purposes.</p><p>The Financial Services chapter was one of the core market access areas considered during the UK’s negotiations to accede to CPTPP. answer text <p>The UK Global Tariff (UKGT) applies when exceptions, such as preferential treatment under a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) or the Generalised Scheme of Preferences, do not apply.</p><p>In designing the UKGT, the Government balanced the interests of UK producers and consumers, and strategic trade objectives such as its FTA agenda and its commitment to developing countries to reduce poverty through trade. Recent discussions have seen the department make considerable progress towards concluding talks, aiming to finish them at the earliest opportunity. The Government is working to ensure that the UK joins on terms that work for British business and are in line with domestic priorities.</p><p>Joining CPTPP will offer significant benefits to exporters. It could give tariff free access to up to 99% of UK goods, to export to a market of 500 million people, while reducing barriers to our world leading service firms.</p> more like this
