answer text <p>Specific rates are a matter for each individual contractor, but assurances are provided to ensure full compliance with the requirements of the National Living Wage. In April 2019 Government will increase the National Living Wage to £8.21 per hour. This is an above inflation increase that will see a full-time minimum wage worker over £2,750 better off over the course of a year compared to when the policy was introduced.</p><p>We value all of our staff and they all deserve a fair and competitive wage, whether they are directly employed or working through our contractors. The Department has agreed with its facilities management contractor that they will align the pay of their cleaning, catering, mailroom and security staff to the appropriate median rates for that occupation, as identified in the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings. Our ambitious Industrial Strategy comprises policies to build an economy fit for the future, helping to foster a competitive environment where businesses can have the confidence to invest in UK manufacturing and thrive.</p><p> </p><p>Around 20% of the 2,072 new inward FDI projects in 2017/18 were in the areas of advanced manufacturing and life sciences. answer text <p>The level of UK content by value in domestically produced vehicles increased to 44 per cent in 2017, up from 36 per cent in 2011.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the Automotive Sector Deal, the government committed to invest £16m, subject to business case, for an industry led programme to raise the competitiveness and productivity of UK suppliers. This will support the industry’s ambition to increase level of UK content in domestically produced vehicles to 50 per cent by 2022.</p><p> </p><p>Through the government’s investment in the Advanced Propulsion Centre, Faraday Battery Challenge, and connected and autonomous vehicles, we are supporting the development of technologies that will form the basis of future low carbon and zero emission supply chains.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Through our Industrial Strategy we are committed to making the UK the best place in Europe to own and grow a manufacturing business. That means using our record investments in infrastructure to unlock growth in every part of the country; using the major new investment in research. This includes a commitment to increase total R&amp;D investment to 2.4% of GDP by 2027 to support innovative manufacturing businesses across the country; and encouraging inward investment. We will create the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, a domestic programme of investment, to boost productivity and reduce economic inequality across the country following our departure from the European Union.</p><p> </p><p>The Clean Growth Strategy sets out our policies and proposals for decarbonising the UK economy through the 2020s, building on the UK’s significant progress to date. The Clean Growth Grand Challenge and missions aim to amplify and extend these plans across the whole economy to maximise the advantage for UK industry from the global shift to clean growth and ensure we have safe, secure and low carbon energy supplies.</p>

answer text <p>We do not make estimates of the number of people who will be employed in manufacturing industries in the UK in the next 5 or 10 years and have no immediate plan to do so.</p><p> </p><p>The manufacturing industry accounts for 2.7 million jobs[1] and has been stable at around this level since 2009.</p><p> </p><p>Government recognises the vital role the manufacturing sector plays in the economy and to local places through jobs and growth. Through our Industrial Strategy, we are committed to making the UK the best place in Europe to own and grow a manufacturing business and are working closely with industry to secure a strong future for UK manufacturers and their employees.
