<p>We welcome the guidelines as an important contribution towards ensuring AI is used
and developed ethically and to the benefit of society.</p><p>The UK will continue
to take a leading role in the global debate around the ethics of AI. This is why we
have established the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation, to provide independent,
expert advice on the measures needed to enable and ensure safe, ethical and innovative
uses of AI and data-driven technologies.</p><p>The principles set out in the EU guidelines
are closely aligned with the UK’s own approach. Many of the principles are the same
as those highlighted as key work areas for the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation.</p><p>The
EU guidelines are also aligned with the UK’s Data Ethics Framework, which includes
clear principles for how data should be used in the public sector, including in applications
of AI.</p>
