answer text
Pakistan is a human rights priority country for the UK. We remain deeply concerned by reports of forced marriages and forced conversions in Pakistan. In 2014, The Aurat Foundation and the Movement for Solidary and Peace (MSP) estimated that in Pakistan approximately 1,000 women and girls a year are abducted, forcibly converted and then married off to their abductors. The number of British nationals impacted is unknown.

Since 2012, the Forced Marriage Unit (FMU), a joint unit between the Home Office and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, has provided support to between 1,200 and 1,400 cases per year. In this period Pakistan has been the top focus country for cases and is linked to between 35-45% of these cases. This does not necessarily mean the victim was in Pakistan but it is where the risk of marriage was. These statistics only represent the cases that have been reported to the FMU. As forced marriage is a hidden crime, these figures may not reflect the full scale of the abuse linked to Pakistan.

We regularly raise our concerns about the protection of vulnerable groups, including religious minorities and women, with the Pakistani Government at a senior level.

answer text
The circumstances of Razan al Najjar’s death require urgent clarification. Any targeting of medical personnel exclusively engaged in medical duties would be unacceptable. Officials from the British Embassy in Tel Aviv raised this with the relevant Israeli authorities on 1 June. The Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary expressed concern about the loss of Palestinian lives during the Gaza protests when they met Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in London on 6 June. The International Criminal Court Prosecutor has been conducting a Preliminary Examination into the situation in Palestine since 2015 and on 8 April released a statement saying, “any new alleged crime committed in the context of the situation in Palestine may be subjected to my Office’s scrutiny”. The government respects her independence in this matter.
more like this

answer text
The UK, as one of the Guarantors of the Dayton Peace Agreement, supports the good functioning of the central state as well as devolved levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Through political, programmatic, diplomatic and defence engagement we are helping to build BiH's stability, prosperity and democracy. Last year the UK spent £7.5 million in programme funds to help strengthen the country's defence and security, improve the judiciary and modernise the economy. Our programme funds for the region are set to increase in future years. In 2014, the UK and Germany launched an initiative to help the country make progress on its EU accession path and to create jobs and growth for the benefit of all BiH's citizens. We work with the police and security agencies and with the State-level judicial institutions to strengthen independence, professionalism and efficiency in tackling terrorism, organised crime and corruption. We provide support to State and sub-State institutions to improve the climate for doing business in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to strengthen the economy and to reform public administration. The UK’s commitment to the Western Balkans region as a whole is long-standing and enduring. Our Western Balkans Summit in July underscores our willingness to work with international partners to help the region become stable, secure, rules-based and ultimately prosperous.
