answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/12/2020 answer text <p>It will be vitally important to engage the public on the challenge of meeting our net zero target, including specifically with young people.</p><p> </p><p>In October 2020, I spoke at the first UK Youth Against Carbon Conference to listen to young people concerned about climate change and highlight to them how the UK will continue to work towards a net zero target for all of society.</p><p> </p><p>In July 2020, we also launched the ‘Involved’ Instagram page, to invite young people across the country to share their views on key issues such as climate change with the Government by asking questions through the app’s polling and stories. Responses will feed directly public consultations and wider policy making.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has welcomed the final report from the Climate Assembly UK and will be looking closely at the report’s findings. The members were selected to be broadly representative of the UK population, which means that nearly 1 in 4 of its members were young people sharing their views on how we should reach net zero.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has funded several digital tools that can help people reduce their carbon footprint, including the ‘Simple Energy Advice’ service on how to reduce energy use in the home, and the ‘Go Ultra Low’ website, providing information on Electric Cars &amp; Vans.</p><p> </p><p>Together for Our Planet, our revitalised domestic climate campaign, will aim to engage the whole country in the conversation around climate change. This means supporting green jobs, levelling up, accelerating our path to net zero, and creating long-term advantage for the UK.</p><p> </p><p>Spanning clean energy, buildings, transport, nature and innovative technologies, the Ten Point Plan will mobilise £12 billion of government investment to unlock three times as much private sector investment by 2030. In doing so we will plan will we will support a further 90,000 green jobs across the UK by 2024, and up to 250,000 by 2030, building on the 460,000 jobs that already exist in the low carbon economy today.</p><p> </p><p>Support for green jobs across the UK, including the West Midlands, will be delivered by:</p><ul><li>Investing £1 billion to make our homes, schools and hospitals greener, warmer and more energy efficient, supporting around 50,000 jobs across the UK</li><li>Doubling the Green Recovery Challenge Fund with an extra £40 million</li><li>Backing our world-leading automotive sector, including in the West Midlands and North East and Wales to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, and transforming our national infrastructure to better support electric vehicles. To support this acceleration, nearly £500 million will be spent in the next four years for the development and mass-scale production of electric vehicle batteries, and other strategic technologies as part of our commitment to provide up to £1 billion, boosting international investment into our strong manufacturing bases such as in the Midlands and North East, and safeguarding 169,000 jobs in the automotive sector.</li></ul><p> </p><p>The Ten Point Plan is the foundation towards a green industrial revolution in the UK. The UK’s exit from the EU does not alter the fact that our energy system is resilient and secure, and UK energy is supplied from diverse sources. Electricity and gas will continue to flow over interconnectors between the UK and the EU at the end of the transition period in any scenario. We have planned extensively for the end of the transition period, alongside industry, to ensure electricity demands are met. We are confident that electricity margins will remain adequate and that the electricity system is able to respond to any changes in demand securely and efficiently. The forecast electricity margin for this winter is healthy, at 4.8GW or 8.3% additional generation.</p><p> </p><p>The UK gas market is one of the world’s most developed and provides security through supply diversity, most of which is not dependent on the EU. We have a world class regulatory system, and all operators are answerable to robust and independent regulators – the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the relevant environmental regulators. If the ONR consider that any nuclear reactor is not safe it will not be allowed to be built. Geological disposal is internationally recognised as the safest available option for disposing of higher activity waste. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/12/2020 answer text <p>Participating energy suppliers are obligated to pay their customers by the end of March 2021, however they are encouraged to make these payments as soon as the relevant checks on eligible customers have been completed.</p><p> </p><p>Administering the Warm Home Discount is a large undertaking. We estimate that around 2.2 million households will receive a rebate this winter with around 1.2 million applying via the Broader Group.
