answer text <p>Since 2010, following consultation, 24 courts have closed and the leases of the buildings were not renewed or extended. Since 2015, 1 tribunal has closed and the lease of the building was not renewed or extended. In this instance the lead multiple claim would be listed for hearing. This table provides the average listing time for both single and lead multiple claim cases.</p><p>A claim may contain one or more jurisdictional complaints (grounds for the claim). Depending upon the complexity of the jurisdiction this may influence the listing of such claims.</p><p>All data were taken from the Employment Tribunals Central database and as such is management information that is provisional and subject to change.</p><p>Although care is taken when processing and analysing the data, the details are subject to inaccuracies inherent in any large-scale recording system, and are the best data available.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>Expenditure on advice and assistance at the ‘Legal Help’ level has been set out according to the type of state benefit involved. It is not possible to break information on civil representation in welfare benefits cases down in this manner and therefore the overall costs attributable to this category have instead been provided.</p><p> </p><p>Due to the time period this question spans, some benefits mentioned will have been discontinued, replaced or amended which will affect the amount of legal aid costs each incurred. Note that figures for civil representation include costs which were paid by the opponent rather than the Legal Aid Agency, and that all figures are inclusive of solicitor fees, barrister fees, expert fees and VAT.</p><p> </p><p>Legal aid remains available in welfare benefits cases, to the extent set out in paragraphs 8 and 8A of Part 1, Schedule 1 of the LASPO Act 2012.</p><p>See attachment for figures.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>At 31 March 201<ins class="ministerial">8</ins><del class="ministerial">7</del>, there were 2,271 sentenced females in the prison population for non-violent crimes (everything but violence against the person) and an additional 445 on remand. This information is publicly available at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/offender-management-statistics-quarterly-october-to-december-2017" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/offender-management-statistics-quarterly-october-to-december-2017</a>.</p><p> </p><p>Her Majesty’s Prisons and Probation Service (HMPPS), does not calculate separately the average cost of prisoners by any type of offence. However, HMPPS routinely publishes average costs per prisoner, costs per prison place and overall prison unit costs for each private and public sector prison in England and Wales, including all categories of the women’s estate. This information is produced on an annual basis and is published after the end of each financial year.</p><p> </p><p>The most recent published figures, for financial year 2016-17, can be accessed on the www.gov.uk website from the following link: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/prison-performance-statistics-2016-to-2017" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/prison-performance-statistics-2016-to-2017</a>. Prison unit costs can be found within the Excel document <em>Costs per prison place and cost per prisoner by individual prison establishment</em> in the ‘Cost by Establishment’ tab.</p><p> </p><p>The courts have a range of sentences at their disposal including community sentences, suspended sentences, fines and custodial sentences. Custodial sentences are reserved for the most serious offences. Women diverted from custody and into community sentences, also have an associated cost to the taxpayer.</p>

answer text <p>It is a requirement for mothers (or fathers) to register births (and still births) within 42 days and prison staff will arrange for registrars to come into the establishment to do this where necessary.</p><p>While there is no requirement for prisons to keep a central record of women who give birth (or suffer a still birth) whilst in prison, the issues pertinent to prisoners, their management and care will be noted on their individual case record. This will include details of whether the woman is pregnant and the outcome of that pregnancy, should it occur whilst they are in custody.</p><p>We currently do not record the number of women who give birth in prisons centrally but consideration will be given on recording this information locally on prison systems.</p> more like this
