answer text
As I said in the House of Commons on 3 September, we are gravely concerned by the heavy-handed response by police to protests in Harare on 16 August and the recent arrests and abductions of opposition figures. Our Ambassador raised our concerns with the Foreign Minister on 22 August and the Defence Minister on 29 August. President Mnangagwa must hold those responsible for human rights violations to account. Zimbabwe remains one of the UK’s 30 Human Rights Priority Countries globally.
more like this

answer text
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office does not hold statistics on the number of requests for diplomatic protection made by British nationals. Any requests for diplomatic protection would be considered on a case-by-case basis, and it is exercised at the Secretary of State's discretion.

Diplomatic protection is a claim by one State against another in respect of an international legal wrong committed against one of its nationals. Diplomatic protection is extremely rare – the case of Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe is the only recent example of where UK has afforded it.

more like this

answer text
The UK welcomes the Constitutional Declaration agreed by the Transitional Military Council and the Forces of Freedom and Change in Sudan, which sets out the plan for transition to civilian-led government. We congratulate Dr. Abdalla Hamdok on his appointment as Prime Minister of Sudan and commend his commitment to freedom, peace and justice. The UK also commends the role of the African Union and Ethiopia in their efforts to support the mediation that has helped to deliver this agreement. We will support the newly-appointed civilian-led government and will continue to engage all sides and international partners to help deliver a coordinated international response and package of practical support that maintains pressure on delivering the transition agreement as well as long-term political and economic reform.

more like this
