<p>Prior to the creation of Regional Schools Commissioners (RSCs), academy sponsors
were approved on a national basis. From 1 September 2014, RSCs have been approving
sponsors to operate in their region, on behalf of the Secretary of State. However,
approval is not broken down beyond regional level.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>A
