Friend, the Secretary of State for Education, established a dedicated Due Diligence and Counter Extremism Division within the Department for Education in October 2010 in order to tackle the threat of extremism in schools. The Government's revised <em>Prevent</em> strategy, published in June 2011, set out a general assessment of the threat. The Secretary of State has asked the Permanent Secretary to investigate how the Department dealt with warnings both since the formation of this Government in 2010 and before.</p><p> </p><p>Since receiving a copy of the Trojan Horse letter, the Department has been working closely with agencies such as Birmingham City Council, the police and Ofsted.
