answer text <p>I look forward to working closely with the international community, including the UN Secretary General, to help secure a de-escalation in tensions between Israel and Palestine. I fully support his call on 10 July for both sides to show maximum restraint. On 12 July the UK joined the rest of the Security Council in calling for a restoration of calm and a return to the November 2012 ceasefire. The UK stands ready to consider further action in the Security Council if that can help secure the ceasefire.</p> more like this

We continue to remind the Afghan Government of its duty to abide by its national and international commitments, and to respect the freedom of worship as enshrined in the Afghan Constitution. We use a variety of activities within Afghanistan to promote freedom of religion, including supporting human rights awareness training. We are also engaging with religious leaders and scholars, to discuss the role of religious leaders in promoting peace and tolerance at a local level.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Foreign and Commonwealth Office entered a two year pay freeze with effect from 1 April 2011. Senior Civil Servants (SMS officers) pay was also frozen in 2010. During the pay freeze, the only staff who received pay increases were those whose salary was less than £21,000 who received a pay increase of at least £250 depending on their performance, in line with HM Treasury public sector pay policy. The FCO emerged from the pay freeze in 2013.</p><p>In 2013 and 2014, staff who performed their role to the required standards received an average 1% salary increase. The Government is concerned by recent reports that stolen antiquities may be funding terrorist activity by groups such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL).
