	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/04/2024 answer text <p>High-quality careers information, advice and guidance is key to helping all young people make informed decisions about their future, including being able to find out about and consider the different options available to them.</p><p> </p><p>The department funds the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC) to support schools and colleges to deliver high-quality careers programmes, to increase young people’s exposure to the world of work and to smooth the transition into their next step.</p><p> </p><p>The support provided by CEC is universal and provides young people in every part of the country, no matter what their background, with high-quality, tailored advice and guidance. Secondary schools are expected to develop and improve their careers provision for young people in line with the world-class Gatsby Benchmarks, including benchmark 3 which focuses on addressing the individual needs of each pupil.</p><p> </p><p>To support schools to address the individual needs of each pupil, in September 2021 CEC launched the Future Skills Questionnaire (FSQ), which is a student self-completion questionnaire that measures career readiness at points of transition across secondary education. Careers Leaders in secondary schools use FSQ insights to identify those students that require additional support in making their next career learning choice.</p><p> </p><p>Careers Hubs in the 2023/24 academic year are providing additional funding to deliver three distinct strands of activity focused on supporting more disadvantaged pupils:</p><ul><li>High-quality work experience for up to 15,000 young people with the greatest economic disadvantage.</li><li>Experiences with 20 employers from key growth sectors for up to 5,000 young people with a guarantee of a high-quality mock interview.</li><li>Virtual experiences for year 7 to 9 pupils in up to 600 institutions in coastal and rural areas.</li></ul> answering member constituency East Hampshire answering member printed Damian Hinds question first answered 26/04/2024 11:31:34 answering member 3969 label Biography information for Damian Hinds

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/09/2023 answer text <p>The Ministry of Justice has partnered with the London Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) to establish an innovative Youth to Adult Hub (or Transition to Adulthood Pilot) in Newham. The Hub brings a range of holistic trauma-informed services together under one roof working alongside Probation Service staff, to improve outcomes for young adults aged 18-25 years old and 17-year-olds transitioning into adult probation.</p><p> </p><p>The Newham Hub was launched in 2021 and was allocated £3 million in government funding through the Shared Outcomes Fund for a two-year pilot ending in March 2023. MoJ is the lead government department, with MOPAC acting as programme manager and lead commissioner. The Government agrees with the 2017 Justice Select Committee report, ‘Disclosure of youth criminal records’, which found that, whilst there may be some merits in this, it would create “unsustainable pressures” on the body responsible for deciding if a record should be sealed. As the report recommended, we are instead focused on reforming the existing automatic filtering system.</p><p>In November 2020, we implemented secondary legislation that changed the rules governing criminal records disclosure for those working with children, vulnerable adults or in a position of public trust, removing (for example) the requirement to disclose youth cautions. Further changes introduced by the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 significantly reduce the length of time that someone needs to disclose their criminal record for custodial sentences of under four years and community sentences.</p><p>We believe that these reforms will continue to ensure we strike the right balance between public protection and ensuring that individuals, and in particular children, who committed minor offences can move on with their lives as quickly as possible.</p> answering member constituency East Hampshire answering member printed Damian Hinds question first answered 17/10/2023 07:18:32 answering member 3969 label Biography information for Damian Hinds
