star this property answer text <p>A number of respondents to last year’s call for evidence on single use plastic waste suggested that an incineration tax could discourage incineration and promote other forms of waste management such as recycling.</p><p>At Budget 2018, the Chancellor announced that he would not at this point be taking forward a tax on the incineration of waste. However, should wider policies not deliver the government’s waste ambitions, government will consider the introduction of such a tax, in conjunction with landfill tax, taking account of the possible impacts on local authorities.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The government has engaged with stakeholders as part of the review of WLTP on vehicle taxes which closed on 17 February.</p><p> </p><p>The review sought evidence on how reported carbon dioxide emissions are impacted by the introduction of WLTP and whether any adjustment should be made to Vehicle Excise Duty and company car tax from April 2020.</p><p> </p><p>Responses to the review are currently being analysed and the government has committed to publishing a response in the spring.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The vehicle tax system supports the objectives set out in the government’s 25 Year Environmental Plan.</p><p> </p><p>Vehicle Excise Duty and Company Car tax are designed to encourage the uptake of cars with low carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2</sub>) emissions to meet our legally binding targets. In addition, at Autumn Budget 2017, the government announced a temporary levy on new diesel cars to encourage manufacturers to bring forward the next generation clean models sooner.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>At Spring Statement 2018, the Chancellor announced a call for evidence, jointly with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, into whether red diesel for non-road mobile machinery discourages the purchase of cleaner alternatives. Red diesel for agricultural use will be out of scope, as will fishing vessels, home heating and other static generators. The consultation document will be published shortly.</p> more like this
