	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/07/2019 answer text <p>The National Health Service is working closely with voluntary sector partners to improve patient outcomes for those with severe asthma and an NHS Cardiovascular Disease-Respiratory national programme has been developed in line with recommendations from the Taskforce for Lung Health.</p><p>Both respiratory disease and the health of children and young people are priority areas in the NHS Long Term Plan, which aims to improve respiratory care through earlier diagnosis and increased access to treatments. The Respiratory Delivery Board will take forward respiratory proposals set out in the Plan, while the Children’s Transformation Board will oversee work to review national asthma policy and existing clinical guidelines.</p><p>The current quality outcomes framework indicators for asthma are in consultation and changes for the annual review indicators may include data on asthma control; exacerbations; and written personalised action plans. NHS RightCare will be publishing an asthma toolkit later this year to support local commissioners and systems in delivering quality care. All specialised providers are required to develop a networked model of care as the vehicle for delivering an optimal pathway and maximising patient outcomes and experience. All specialised services report against national quality metrics for severe asthma services on an annual basis. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care met regularly with the former Chancellor (Rt. hon Philip Hammond MP) and other Cabinet colleagues to discuss a range of issues related to funding for medical research and development.</p><p>The Department’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) budget for 2019/20 is just over £1 billion and welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health. Applications are subject to peer review and judged in open competition, with awards being made on the basis of the importance of the topic to patients and health and care services, value for money and scientific quality. The International Research and Innovation Strategy sets out how we will achieve this by deepening international engagement, partnerships and practical collaboration.</p><p>There are strong links between the UK and EU’s research and innovation communities, with a long track record of jointly tackling global challenges. We are working to ensure that collaboration can continue in any scenario, including the funding commitment made under the Horizon 2020 guarantee and extension.</p><p>We are exploring association to the Horizon Europe programme, as well as considering alternative options as part of a review of the future UK funding landscape. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/08/2019 answer text <p>Through our Modern Industrial Strategy we committed to increasing R&amp;D investment across the economy to 2.4% of GDP by 2027, which would be the highest recorded level, and 3% in the longer-term.</p><p>We know that there are significant clusters of R&amp;D strengths in all regions and nations of the UK.</p><p>The Government confirmed in the 2018 Budget that the Strength in Places Fund is to receive a further £120m to bring the fund budget for the period up to 2021/22 to £236m.
