unstar this property answer text <p>The Government is clear that we want people who are transgender to be able to live their lives as they wish. We must also protect free speech and allow open and tolerant discussion.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The UK has a robust legislative framework to protect the rights of trans people, including the Gender Recognition Act 2004. Recently, the government modernised the process for obtaining a gender recognition certificate by reducing the fee and moving the application process online. We have also committed to banning conversion practices, including for transgender people.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Government remains absolutely committed to taking action to tackle abhorrent conversion 'therapy' practices. These acts are aimed at changing someone else's identity, whether that be to or from being LGBT, and have no place in UK society.</p><p>Equality Ministers and officials have been carefully considering the issue, including all of the responses we received to our public consultation. This is to ensure any action we take is robust, measured and avoids any unintended consequences on parents, clinicians, teachers or religious groups.</p><p>A draft Bill setting out our approach will be published for pre-legislative scrutiny by a joint Committee of both Houses in the new year, alongside the Government’s response to the consultation.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Wales Office is a very small Government Department of around forty five members of staff but it has nevertheless managed to create thirteen apprenticeships since 2011. Six Wales Office apprentices subsequently chose to secure a job within the Civil Service and four are currently still undertaking their apprenticeship civil service roles.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>In light of the Government’s manifesto commitment to achieve three million new apprenticeship starts in England by the end of the Parliament, the Cabinet Office will be centrally collecting data on apprenticeships to allow the Civil Service to report on its contribution towards the national target.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Agency workers, including supply teachers, are eligible for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) in the same way as other employees and can continue to be claimed for during periods of school closure provided that the usual eligibility criteria are met. However, the furloughing of staff through the CJRS is a voluntary arrangement, entered at the employers’ discretion and agreed by employees.</p><p> </p><p>Functions given to HMRC under the Coronavirus Act 2020 to implement the CJRS do not enable Government to require employers to furlough their staff or alternatively require employees to agree to be furloughed. It is not for the Government to decide whether an individual firm should put its staff on furlough.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Education has published detailed guidance on the application of financial support schemes for the education sector, including for supply staff with various different employment arrangements, on GOV.UK.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Although the standard rate of VAT of 20% applies on energy saving materials, the Government allows a reduced rate of 5% of VAT on:</p><p> </p><p>- all installations of energy saving materials for recipients who are aged 60 or over or on certain benefits, for housing associations, and where the installations are in buildings used for relevant residential purposes, and;</p><p> </p><p>- on all other installations of energy saving materials in residential accommodation where the cost of the materials does not exceed 60% of the total cost of the installation.</p><p> </p><p>It should be noted that if the value of the energy-saving materials exceeds 60%, then only the labour cost element will qualify for the reduced rate (with the supply of the materials being taxed at the standard rate).</p> more like this
