We have made an additional £1.4 billion available over the course of 2015/16-2020/21 to transform services and ensure access to specialist mental health services for an additional 70,000 children and young people a year by 2020/21.</p><p> </p><p>We have also introduced two waiting time standards for children and young people. The first aims for 95% of children, up to 19 years old, with eating disorders to receive treatment within a week for urgent cases, and four weeks for routine cases, by 2020. The second is that 50% of patients (of all ages) experiencing a first episode of psychosis receive treatment within two weeks of referral. We are currently exceeding or on track to meet these waiting time standards.</p><p> </p><p>The Green Paper, ‘Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision’, published by the Department for Health and Social Care and the Department for Education, announced creation of new Mental Health Support Teams. These teams will deliver mental health interventions for those with mild to moderate needs in or close to schools and colleges, and refer those with more severe needs on to specialist services. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/12/2018 answer text <p>In England, local authorities (LAS) are responsible for assessing oral health needs and improving the oral health of their local population.</p><p> </p><p>Improving the oral health of children in England is an ongoing Public Health England (PHE) priority. PHE’s Children’s Oral Health Improvement Programme Board (COHIPB) brings together over 20 stakeholder organisations that have key leadership roles for children and young people. As part of the work of COHIPB, PHE has produced resources which contribute to improving and reducing inequalities in oral health, including local authority area trends in the oral health of five-year-olds and information on programmes currently commissioned by LAs to improve oral health in children. The projections are based on specific assumptions about trends in such variables as future mortality rates and disability rates, and are updated regularly as new data become available – for example official population projections published by the Office for National Statistics. The Department has put in place significant actions to boost the supply of nurses, ranging from training more nurses, offering new routes into the profession, enhancing reward and pay packages to make nursing more attractive and improve retention, and encouraging those that have left to return to nursing. In 2018, NHS England and Health Education England ran an extensive communication campaign ‘we are the NHS’ which was focused on highlighting the positive image of nursing as a career.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has made available funding for up to 5,000 additional clinical placements for nursing degrees in England.</p><p> </p><p>Apprenticeships play a key role in ensuring the National Health Service has a future workforce, and the Department is committed to broadening routes into nursing. For the first time we now have a complete pathway of apprentice standards into nursing, from entry level Healthcare Support Worker, to Nursing Associate and onto the Nurse Degree Apprenticeship and Advanced Clinical Practice.</p><p> </p><p>The latest data from the University and College Admissions Service (UCAS) shows that there has been a 4.5% increase in applicants to nursing or midwifery courses at English universities when compared to this time last year, 2018<sup>1</sup>.</p><p> </p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan, published on 7 January 2019, sets out a vital strategic framework to ensure that over the next ten years the NHS will have the staff it needs. This will ensure that nurses are able to offer the expert compassionate care that they are committed providing.</p><p> </p><p>My Rt. hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has commissioned Baroness Dido Harding Chair of NHS Improvement, working closely with Sir David Behan Chair of Health Education England, to a programme of work to develop a detailed workforce implementation plan. HEE intended to publish a second phase, longer-term strategy that looked at the cancer workforce needs beyond 2021. This work was started and stakeholders from within the National Health Service and the charitable sector contributed to the early discussions. This work has since been superseded by publication of the NHS Long Term Plan in January 2019.</p><p> </p><p>My Rt. hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has subsequently commissioned Baroness Dido Harding, working closely with Sir David Behan, to lead a number of programmes to engage with key NHS interests to develop a detailed workforce implementation plan. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/02/2019 answer text <p>National waiting time standards for Early Intervention in Psychosis, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies and Children and Young People Eating Disorder Services are already being met or are on track to be met by 2020/21 for the south east.</p><p> </p><p>Under the NHS Long Term Plan, there will be a comprehensive expansion of mental health services, with an additional £2.3 billion per year in real terms by 2023/24. NHS England will be testing four week waiting times for children and young people’s, adults’ and older adults’ community mental health teams, with selected local areas. Clear standards will then be set for patients requiring access to community mental health treatment and rolled out across the National Health Service over the next decade. This will include new waiting times for children and young people, adults and those experiencing a mental health crisis. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has commissioned Baroness Dido Harding, Chair of NHS Improvement, working closely with Sir David Behan, Chair of Health Education, to oversee the delivery of a workforce implementation plan. This will include proposals to grow the workforce, consideration of additional staff and skills required, building a supportive working culture in the NHS and how to ensure first rate leadership for NHS staff.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has committed to growing the general practitioner workforce by an additional 5,000 full-time equivalent doctors as soon as possible. The Department has started to roll out an extra 1,500 medical school places for domestic students, with the first 630 places taken up in September 2018. By 2020, five new medical schools will have opened to help deliver the expansion.</p><p> </p><p>The Enhancing Junior Doctors’ Working Lives programme was established in 2016 by Health Education England (HEE) to address a range of issues that were impacting on doctors in training.
