The Work Programme, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies and the Troubled Families Programme are also tailored to support families with children and people with mental health conditions.

The decision to temporarily halt a claimant’s benefit payment is always thoroughly considered and is not something we do lightly. It is a consequence of a claimant not meeting their requirements in return for receiving the benefit without good reason. The requirements and consequences are clearly communicated with them throughout their claim and set out in their Claimant Commitment. There are a number of steps in the decision making process to ensure that our decisions are correct.

After being notified of the decision, claimants can apply for hardship payments. Vulnerable claimants can apply for hardship immediately and the majority of claims are approved.

The only major public sector pension scheme that makes investments is the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Investment decisions are taken locally by each of the 89 pension fund authorities in England and Wales with regard to the policies set out in their Statement of Investment Principles. Details of these investments are included in each authority’s annual pension fund report, copies of which can be found at the LGPS Advisory Board website at www.lgpsboard.org/index.php/fund-annual-reports-2014
more like this

The Government will respond to this consultation later this year.

The guidance provided by The Pensions Regulator in its free ‘trustee toolkit’ was updated earlier this year to clarify that where trustees think environmental, social or governance issues are financially material to a scheme’s investments they should take these into account. The guidance also makes clear that the law permits trustees to make investment decisions that are influenced by non-financial factors, provided they have a good reason to think that scheme members share the concern, and there is no risk of significant detriment to the fund
